OK...I quoted his response earlier...he seemed to believe "we did it to them" strange choice of words.... Game didn't go to extra time...several changes to team... You got the full quote...can't find the interview... I've no problem adjusting my view if you are correct...
I watched the interview on Sky straight after our match, it's probably on line somewhere but I am useless at finding **** like that.
Which is why you don't actually have a clue ... Sakho got skinned? No, he was out paced by one of the quickest attackers in the league due to Skrtel deciding to push up and attack a ball (and completely miss) which Allen has covered. And don't forget Flanno who is doing nothing - he;s not covering, he's not tracking back, he's not doing anything. For the second goal - Sakho shows Pelle into 2 LFC players and shows him onto his weaker foot - what more do you want?. It was a great finish to be fair. Believe it or not, the closest defender to the attacker is not automatically the one who is to blame.
Think you need to re-watch with unbiased eyes. I already said he wasn't skinned for the third, he was just totally the wrong side of the striker considering where the ball was likely to (and did) come in from. I bet you blame Skirtel for Can giving the ball away for the first goal too. Some of your supporters actually see what happens in games and admit it, there is no shame, all players make mistakes.
Did Can give the ball away? I thought Flanno miscontrolled it and lost possession? How the hell was Sakho wrong side of Mane? So Sakho should have been on Mane's left side which means a simple ball and he was clean through. Like I said before, contrary to popular belief, the closest defender isn't automatically the one who is at fault. Look at the people around who make bigger mistakes or even worse, not doing anything at all. There's a reason why 2 goals came down our right side and it's because there was too much space to attack in - and Sakho was the one who was trying to cover it!
Ok, you win, Sakho is a god who can do no wrong. I hope he stays as your best defender for a long time
This gives more of a context to the comment http://www.skysports.com/football/n...marcus-rashford-after-manchester-derby-winner
Van Gaal has said some weird things in the past and his views about football matches have been eccentric to say the least. But even he cannot be accused of saying that he "takes credit" for LFC's defeat at the saints. The way I read his interview was that both LFC and United were tired after their exertions and therefore were at a disadvantage playing this weekend. United managed to overcome theirs but LFC didnt as they tired in the 2nd half and the Saints took advantage". So it was more a praise of their resilience on Sunday rather than United taking credit for the saints' victory. Mind you he did have a barbed comment at the end: he said that his team can now hopefully kick on and get results for a CL place especially that now they won't have any Thursday matches ( with a smile and a twinkle in his eyes).
That was my take on three goals too, but unless you watched more than the highlights you can't really put Skrtel's performance into context. It was a train wreck from start to finish. To be fair with him though, it was his first game for months (though that doesn't excuse the shirt-pulling). I DO blame Klopp, to an extent, for putting him on in front of a fully fit Toure. That said. at 2-0 (and what shout have been 3 or 4 nil) he possibly thought he'd ease him back, but in Pelle So'ton have a big, powerful forward, and Skrtel was, is and always will be a ****ing blouse when he comes up against that, fully match fit or not.
