Don't think they were dreaming, as at one point you were flying. I wasn't one of those people but I did say I think you'd struggle and you'd be somewhere around 13th - 16th, but boy was I wrong. Will be interesting to see what happens next season with you guys, remember what happened to Newcastle a few seasons back when they had finished 5th, since then they've just played ****. Good luck for the rest of the season mate (but not too much luck, as we want to finish above you!)
The difference between us and Newcastle tho is we have a great academy. We also will invest the money from player sells. I would love it if we got into Europe. It would be even better if Utd didn't get into the top 5 (I can't stand Gaal).
Newcastle are a total basket case Southampton will do better just cos they are not run by numbers I think Southampton have only one way of playing and that's a power game so they need to get in a coutinho basically I think the best they can do is 6th but if anyone's bothers to look after first game I posted saints would be fine after seeing what they were about at anfield They just lack that creativity right now
I'd put you competing with Spurs right now I dunno... I hope we are competing with utd for 4th but I'd much rather compete with saints for it
Yes!! What a win. Very important victory and I thought we defended excellently. The last two games we have past the ball very poor which is a concern - but we're still winning game which is a great sign. Very happy.
What we really lack is a class striker. Pelle is decent/good, but we need a goal poacher. Just look at the chances we had against you guys today, we need some one to stick it in the net.
great result tonight, vital too Lallana should not have played after his interview midweek, sounded **** scared of the visit and was absolutely anonymous. Great game from skrtel and we needed that cool head today. Glad we are able to play like that and grind a win out away from home against a good team
You need to create chances too. You didn't really create anything of note against us and I don't think we were ever troubled by your attack. And almost every side has a 20 goal a season striker on their wish list but realistically Southampton will struggle to attract anyone better than Pelle at scoring, and there's so much competition for these strikers its going to be tough for you to get the right one in. Not trying to be an arse or anything but that's the way I see it.
Ronald Koeman: "With the first penalty appeal, maybe Filip Djuricic fell too easy. But the second one is a 100% penalty" #crywolf
I have just had a look at the next 3 premiership games for us and those above us. I reckon that by the time we come to play Man Utd on 24 March the table could look like this: Chelsea 67 Man City 60 Arsenal 53 Man Utd 52 Southampton 52 Liverpool 52 The run in for 3rd and 4th places will be interesting.
Not on about big named striker. Just look what Rodriguez did for us last season. We need a poacher which we haven't got in our team. If we had a poacher some of the half chances we have, will end up as goals. Our team just seem frightend to shoot, which is annoying.
Brendan Rodgers: "I thought Kevin was excellent, he was under pressure from the crowd but he had great control of the game." come on Southampton don't do an Everton, unless you're a billionaire's plaything then the crowd automatically screaming for every decision just gets ignored anyway
The thing is if you put Rodriguez in there instead of one of your wide midfielders Elia/Tadic/Djurcic then maybe you'd lose a bit of control over the game and you create less chances overall. Maybe at the moment the balance of your team is just right between attack & defence, and if you started going a little more attacking you would concede much more than you are at present. I think the only problem you've got at the moment is that Pelle & Tadic have hit a rough patch and you've not got anyone to really step in and take over from them. If you could improve your depth in the summer I think you've got a real chance of establishing yourself as a club that at least challenges for the Europa League every season, especially if you can keep Koeman who seems like a really good, tactically astute manager.
I agree with you about Rodriguez. I was just using him as a example that you can get a goalscorer for cheap. Depth is the main issue for us, we have no real replacement striker.
Shame Lambert didn't stay really, the move really hasn't worked out for anyone involved. Feel sorry for him that Liverpool signed him and didn't even seem bothered to use him.
