Just managed to join the forum after lurking for a couple of years. Supported Saints since the mid 60's and now go to St Mary's as a carer for my best pal who is in a wheelchair. It all feels a bit grim at the ground these days and the Chelsea match was dreadful. Not expecting much on Friday evening other than another loss, but hope to see the start of a turn around in fortunes.
Don't worry I am told it wont last. My water was laced with quite a lot of scotch when I wrote that and to(e)cap it all I was more than a little tight but that is my stocking trade these days. You should have seen the colour of my tongue this morning.
Welcome mate, hope to read many contributions from your good self and maybe your best pal too.. Loving your avatar BTW..halcyon days indeed!
Thanks very much for the warm welcome. If VAR is used properly it should help to cut out a lot of the absolutely dire decisions made by a lot of the referees, but I would prefer to have professional unbiased referees that knew what they were doing. The danger is VAR will just slow things up and not effectively stop bad decisions.
Welcome to the board! Any issues, let one of the mods know via the Conversation button, that’s Beddytare, Channonfodder, st_brendy, and me. Enjoy!
Greetings. That’s a really good thing that you are doing, by helping your friend. Respect. My wife is a wheelchair user, so I fully appreciate the issues that you are likely to encounter. You’ll be ok on here, so long as you don’t mention left or right backs. I mentioned them earlier, but think I got away with it.
Thank you St Badger. We have been friends for 55 years and going to St Mary's has been a great thing to do together. I must say that the stewards couldn't be more helpful, but the atmosphere is really flat compared to when we went to the Dell together. It's all a bit corporate. By the way, back when we were part of the group at the Milton Road end with Dougal etc, my nickname was....'Badger'. That came about when I was hit in the head by a bottle from an Arsenal fan and a patch of my hair feel out. It then grew back pure white and Dougal and a few others christened me Badger while falling about laughing. Crazy but really great days.
You'll fit in just perfectly here. You won't skate around the subject. Anyway to get back on topic before the Mods accuse me of injecting Red Herrings into the thread, I think we'll do this 2-1.
I just hope VAR does not surface Friday. As a Saints fan I was obviously happy with the decisions last Saturday but I thought that it spoilt the game. I would have been unhappy with a 3-1 result as a saints fan but as a football fan, I would have been happy with both goals allowed. The first was borderline shoulder and the offside was very marginal. VAR is only compensating for **** refereeing but even a top referee would have had difficulty finding fault with those goals in real time.
