Three weeks is going to feel like an eternity now until Sparta. So if we win our next game and inter either draw or win theirs, we're through right? Incidentally, on the competition as a whole Schalke, Zenit, Shakhtar and Ajax are all already through. Group L is the most surprising out of all of them so far.

Thanks, LTL. Maya was a rock last night and has made less errors this season than Jose, so to call him "inconsistent" is unfair. Our weak link is definitely Cuco. I'll be happy when Cedric gets back as he (Cuco) was caught out of position many times last night and worries me.

I thought the ref HAD whistled. He made a gesture as if he was going to disallow it and I was looking at the linesman, but then he decided to allow it.
That's why I was the only one not dancing around until about 5 seconds later!

Yeah, I have been impressed with Cuco's improvement from last season, but these last few games, he really does look like the weak link back there. Be really helpful to get a bit of rotation and then bring him back in. What is that walking backwards defending he does......if he scores ever again, that should be his celebration.....but please not during the game Cuco!

 

The ref was probably aware of 60K+ eyes on him....you'd have to be damn sure to disallow it.

 

Well we use him in another position then. He has done enough to be kept when we get all our players back. Just hope Saints have enough left in the tank for a win at Hull. I promise not to jinx the game as I am going.

 

I have always been a Maya fan...although I always saw him as a back up. I think we were all surprised though when he got a contract extension....someone at the club must know what they are doing. I am intrigued by Puel's courage in rotating the squad....few can feel entirely safe.

 

Maya was like Gazzaniga, never got playing time then thrown in for a game and expected to be up to speed. Getting more playing time gives him the chance to be on a par with the rest of the team.

 

What. A. Day. Amazing result at St Mary's in my first ever European game, and in over 20 matches that I've attended it was the first time I've seen a comeback win! Kevin Davies and Matt Smith were staying in our hotel and sat drinking with us until 1am, along with shareholders and even the marketing manager (James if I remember correctly). We probed him about the potential takeover and he told us that Southampton would only be sold if it was for the good of the club and only if the Liebherr legacy was going to remain intact. Such a club we have and you really come to realise that when you talk to people on the inside. He had so many stories for us, how he supported Liverpool from he was a child but after two years of working for Southampton he is now a lifelong Saints fan. I won't forget yesterday for a long time! Hope all you guys had a great evening.

 

Yep, Maya has impressed me this season - feel he's gone up a level which is excellent.

 

This is the advantage of Puel's system...everyone gets playing time and are more likely to step in seamlessly if needed. Maya has always had a great attitude when he wasn't playing, so it is great that he feels needed and can show what he can do. I do wonder what Fonte makes of it...especially when he could possibly have gone in the summer....but then he too is a good professional.

 

The comments about a possible sale doesn't mean it won't happen sometime, but I am pleased that Katharina feels a responsibility to carry on her father's plans. It has been said elsewhere that she has turned down other offers for the club, so we must assume she will be diligent about any buyers. Les Reed and his team must stay at all costs.

 

Prefer them to keep it quiet till close season though.We don't need any distractions, its not helpful for the fans or the players.

 

Yes I got the feeling that his response was polished and rehearsed and didn't give much away bar some slight reassurance. He was a top bloke though! He said if there weren't people interested in buying the club he would be more concerned.
