I thought he was okay last season...but we have stepped up our performance in general this season. Lovren and Fonte are good in tandem. Lovren seems to have improved Fonte's performance, but I think many thought Jose wouldn't play much this season. If it has to be Lovren and Yosh...so be it. Not as if we have many options.
But he was pretty much at fault for all 3 goals.. The first and third goals were obviously his mistakes. The second he made an awful pass to a Villa player, Cork tackled him then got tackled, so maybe a 50/50 fault for me, Maya should never have attempted that pass in the first place. He cost us 3 points yesterday, we can hardly ask him to play against teams who are far superior to Villa, considering they had 3 chances and bagged all 3! City would have put 20 past us on Wednesday with defending that bad.
I'm not writing Maya off, but he bears some fault for every goal. The first ball he clearly chose wrong and was wrong-footed. The second ball he made no attempt at all to attack, and the third he didn't get anywhere near tight enough, soon enough, to Delph, but merely ran with him until Delph shot. It's just clear poor defending, I'm afraid, and I bet he knows it too.
