This is what I always feel like on match days....sorry if I've corrupted you. The day before the match I'm all roses and gambolling lambs. :)

I don't think anyone would prefer Gaston at the club in preference to James. I'm certainly not wetting myself about Gaston and would be a little annoyed if he were offered a new contract. I think SS said Gaston has a special place in many Saint's hearts just because he annoyed lawrenson and was a signal of our ambition on the return to top flight football. I also think after the Osvaldo saga many Saints fans would like to see a little return on Gaston, make him not such a waste of resources.

Being a football fan is an emotional thing, we react that way for good or bad. I just loved the look of sheer bemusement on Gaston's face as he joined in the celebrations for the goal. Maybe it'll re-awaken his passion for the game, though I suspect Saints will not benefit from it.

Anyway, looks set for a Gaston own goal to drag us all back to reality tomorrow !

I know, the thing is we are a far better team, the Cups will make this season for us. Villa are just here to wreck the party. I can see us dominating but struggle to put one away....then they get the dreaded Gabby fluke. Hope I'm very wrong.

I live in Villa heartland and last years result at SMS has kept all of them very quiet so really keen for a repeat performance tomorrow night especially as I am making the 350 mile round trip to support our boys

Three of our strikers are out (Mane, Long, Jay), which poses some problem. Pelle and Tadić will most certainly start, so that's two of the attacking trident. I think Davis will join them. So there's only left to pick three players in midfield, from this lot; Wanyama, Romeu, Clasie and JWP

    So I reckon

    Stek
Cedric - Fonte- Van Dijk - Bertrand
    Wanyama - Clasie/Romeu
    Davis - JWP - Tadić
    Pelle

Got to take this seriously....don't want a repeat of last season. Real chance of silverware.

One of the criticisms of Sherwood was that he had very good players kept on the bench because he hadn't brought them in to the Club, the new guy may be using them and they will be wanting to make a point perhaps. Our worst danger is being complacent in thinking we could walk all over them because they are in a bit of disarray, I trust RonKo to put out his best side out for the job, whether they will be giving 100% will be seen on the day. We are capable of winning, doesn't mean to say we will, I have been supporting the Saints for a long, long time and I have seen it all before!

Just watched the 6-1 thrashing of last season...well, it would be rude not to. :) Can't see them giving us that much room again though. Forgot how good Shane Long's second goal was. I was there and remember how happy everyone was for Pelle to get on the score sheet...wouldn't have wanted a brooding Italian skulking in the corner of a celebrating dressing room<laugh>

Here's the link for the press conference at 2pm. Will they ask questions about Saints today just for a change?

Liverpool, Klopp and Sherwood will be mentioned, but Saints will get the majority of chat, I think. Check how long it lasts. Bet it won't be a long one.

There was something for everyone there. Mane fastest 3 goals, Shanes brilliant dipping lob, and then Pelle's volley after some nice build up between Djuricic and Mane. And Benteke showed us how good he is in the air [giving Gazzaniga no point in trying to save the thing <whistle> ].

Not great news for Jay. Feet problems now. Lets hope that it is nothing serious.

Poor Jay...another set back. :( They expected him to be back this week, but he has painful feet. My guess is tendonitis and/or fasciitis...he will get better treatment than me, but I took most of a year to recover from that.

So as expected going for a strong side, but also have to recognise the need of good squad players to get a chance.

Koeman made a very good point....managerial changes rarely produce a magical improvement and managers need support from a realistic board. A new manager can sometimes get you the odd points and prevent relegation, but a crap team is still a crap team. We got rid of Pardew and the blessed Nigel, not because we were a poor side, but because we wanted to make a step up.
