Don't know about the rest of you, but I was surprised Yoshida got a new contract, but his versatility and character seems to be really appreciated by Koeman. He is a safe back up in CB, can play RB (though some seem to have doubt Koeman's decision on this), has looked dangerous in the opposition box (I expect a few goals/assists from headers), and is generally a valued member of the team.

Fully agree with this assessment of Juanmi's performance - when we were walking away from the ground and discussing the game my son said almost exactly the same words as Tom has here ! Mr Sceptical me was even fairly pleased with him !

He is a decent chap, almost a stereotypical honourable Japanese gentleman and I think he is good to have around the dressing room. He seems well respected by everyone. He is not spectacular but an ok back up. He isn't the greatest at full back but despite the game or two this season that people have moaned when he played full back and didn't do well, he had so had good games at full back in the past. Chelsea at home last season for one.

He's not going to be in my first 11, but good squad player.

Squad players are essential. Too often we've had the main squad and quaked in our shoes when anyone is out. It's very hard to get back up players, pushing for inclusion on match day, at a club outside the very top. I can see now why Saints decided to hold onto Yoshida...he's used to us and the EPL...what's the point in taking a chance on a new player who might be unsettled if he isn't played every week. I think we are getting there and have a deeper squad....except for keepers.

Only listened on Solent but happy to get the win, sounds like we were poor in first half and Davis & Tadic really made a difference. Buzzing to get Liverpool in the QF espescially at home! Is this our year?

No. Let's bury them in the league. 5-0.

I want Lallana to miss the deciding penalty in a shoot-out at the Northam end. I think that would bring all christmas' into one. I actually believe he would sob like a baby and never recover as a player again and end up at Tranmere Rovers after two seasons playing for Liverpool U21s

Not until televised games have been picked....don't know date yet. Our game must have a pretty good chance of being selected.

Interesting to see Pelle was onside for that first half chance. I was adamant he was but that Lino was always so far off the pace he didn't have a clue. Terrible first half but Maya made the £12 for me! :D villa fans were excellent but I am not sure it lifts your team to hear so many negative chants!

Definitely onside and he would have been well clear (which fooled the lino)....we will never know if he might have scored, but luckily it didn't matter (except to our magnificent Italian :)).

Harsh! Trouble is we've all made gaffs in our careers, but not as public as this one. I was pleased that he didn't do much last Sunday but the chant of "Adam Lallana, we ****ing hate you" doesn't make us look good. I was appalled not by the fact that he went to Liverpool, but the way he handled it, as I am sure is the case with many others. It's time to treat him with complete indifference now. We have benefitted from his transfer fee; he's at a club in decline and we move on. And anyway, I like Tranmere. Why should they be landed with the twat?

    EDIT

I do agree with you, FLT, about Davis. He always has an influence om the game.

We won't move on from slating Adam until we beat them. And the LC QF is the perfect time to do so <ok>

Mo Po was at the game last night (first half anyway) I hope he was looking at Villa because they have them soon and not anything else.

Absolutely. He's not a FB in reality (and he knows that as well as anyone), but hell he's not terrible there, and he always works his socks off, never, ever complains about having to play out of position and is clearly a very positive guy to have around the place. Added to which, he's perfectly capable as a CB too. The very epitome of a decent squad player.

What would be nice would be if some of the people with a Yoshida shaped bee in their bonnet had the grace to come on and say "he had a really good game last night".

    Won't hold my breath though.

Thing is, I support anyone in a Saints shirt if I think he's doing his best. I even supported Jermaine Wright, for goodness sake. I'm especially delighted to see players make an impact when they have been out in the cold - like Punch, for example, and hopefully Gaston. And yes, a hard working player who gives his all, as Yoshida does, should always be appreciated. I don't get the slagging of players unless they they clearly taking the money but taking the piss. Anyone want to name one of those?

Absolutely. Osvaldo would be one of those.

I just get confused where people have favourites and anti-heroes to the extent that when something happens that goes against their outlook it just gets ignored. Everyone has favourites, but criticising someone for a single poor game is fine as long as you're also able to hold your hands up when they have a good one. Sometimes the lack of objectivity is just.....weird!

But then I guess that's why we love it so much, high emotion stuff!
