Just looked at Maya's goal again. What a cracker. Perfectly placed drive.

This match was clearly about giving game time to fringe players.
The first half was like watching an England international friendly, with too many new faces trying to gel.
We gave Villa too much respect playing two defensive midfielders, which left us pretty punch less in the attacking sense.
The difference Steve Davis and Tadic made, was immense, and we then started to look like a football team.

When my Dad and I saw who was wheeling away in celebration we just looked at each in astonishment! We couldn't believe it! <laugh>

RonKo was cruel to Villa tonight, he gave them hope, then unleashed our Samurai and brought on the hit squad. Nice to gift them a goal as they deserved something for their efforts, but where did 4 minutes extra time come from?

First time in recent memory we have fielded a weakened team against PL opposition in the cup and won.

when I saw Yoshi and targett I felt uneasy but they both performed well. Credit to caulker as he hasn't had much game time and felt he did well. He could yet develop into a good reliable CB.

Disappointed not to see seager get a run out. Out of interest what happened to Gallagher?

Much better second half and the subs made a difference. Didn't look a penalty from where I was sat, looked as though he won the ball. What did it look like from the stream?

Useful game time for a few players there. We'll have to be better against Liverpool to progress.

No, let's bury them. Much more pleasurable. I want Twatcheeks to severely question the wisdom of going to Anfield, if he hasn't already. :)

I understood we might recall him due to lack of appearances, but then again I may have read that from some disreputable footy website that pops up on NewsNow.

He hasn't been given enough match time and Saints have said that they are not pleased about it, he wasn't even on the bench for the last game. When he has played I think he was OK and had a couple of assists credited. I suspect he will be back asap.

Yep. I was a little sorry to see him go off with Juanmi, but Ronald's little experiment hadn't quite yielded enough result, so on came the trusted ones and they almost immediately made the difference.

Agree with the subs. We had much more control of the game with Davis on the pitch.

Quite good. Made a superb tackle in the 2nd half. In fact it was so good I thought it was Van Dijk at first! His tracking back and work rate were excellent and he showed some good stuff on the ball as well.
