I remember in the 2015/16 season when we were about to play them around the Xmas period and we went into the game on a decent run of form. In contrast, Southampton had lost 4 out of their last 5 matches. Yet we ended up getting our arses handed to us on a plate and made Shane facking Long look like Messi.

Southampton may not be the same side as they were a couple of seasons ago, and they may not have been too great this season, but they seem to turn it on against us at St. Mary's. Given that we've already lost 5 games this season, we could very easily lose this. We've already lost to teams worse than Southampton this season anyway. As you've said, we don't know which Arsenal team will turn up, so we just have to hope we can bring the fight to them and be clinical with our chances.

Im watching TSN1 and it is so annoying listening to "pundits". Kos the boss had a bad game last game and now they label him "so inconsistent" over the years. WTF?!

Flat back four for us today with kos and mert at CB, Monreal and Bellerin full back.

We should be okay as long as mertesaker doesn’t get exposed.

    Missed their opening goal.

We need a proper DM soo badly.

    Lacazette is quality.

Another defensive mistake. You'd think our defenders would be more concentrated at the back especially from the manure game! They did the same thing and gifted Southampton with a goal. Mert this time with a bad pass.

If Southampton had more quality like United, we would be 2 down. Our defence has switched off again.

He is a top defender and a great replacement or Mertz. Not sure Wenger would want to spend that much money on a defender and he would come at a price.

    We're probably gonna lose this.

Have far more quality but we are being out worked and out-fought. Typical.

Not weird, he's just demotivated and doesn't want to be here anymore. He is too good to have such a crappy return for us this season.

Everyone is going to point at Mertesacker and our defence but..

Ramsey is NEVER where he should be. The guy has the worst positioning.

Xhaka wants an age on the ball and is constantly getting caught out. Again he's normally too keen to get high up the pitch.

Our midfields offers our defence nothing.

    1-0. HT.

    Frustrating. Extremely frustrating.

In many ways, we are lucky that we aren't losing by more. We have looked ridiculously unconvincing in defensive situations and every time they break forward, it looks like we're on the verge of conceding.

We've monopolised possession, but if we're basing this on quality of chances, Southampton have had more clear-cut opportunities.

They've soaked up the pressure well, plugged the gaps and are hitting us on the break/whenever we lose the ball.

It makes zero sense as to why we are whipping in crosses to Lacazette. He's up against Van Dijk, there's only ever going to be one winner there.

We are passing it around with no zip or urgency, it's all so laborious.

The midfield pivot of Xhaka-Ramsey simply isn't balanced enough and both are too slow to release the ball.

We need to up the ante in the second half, but we need some more direct pace in the side. As well as someone willing to take players on.

It may be worth putting on Welbeck at some point to stretch their defence because they have been relatively compact. Hell, if we're going to continue whipping in crosses, we may as well put Giroud on while we're at it.

Either way, the current way of doing things is producing naff all, so we need to fix up.

If the result stays as it is, that's 5 defeats out of the 8 away games we've played so far.

We're not even half-way through the season <doh>.

    That's a truly horrendous statistic.

We still want far too much time on the ball. Sigh.

Bellerin has been absolutely diabolical today. One of his worst performances I've ever seen from him.

Good match, but you're slow and keep dithering, need someone to take on the defence when you break.
