I guess because we beat them at the weekend and they have been weak this season. Although they are on the up.
This lying down in the wall thing is so ****ing stupid when JWP is lining it up. (I mean, it's stupid anyway, but even more so)
By all accounts, in about two weeks time we'll basically be back to full strength (subject to no more injuries). The problem is, our entire season falls into those two weeks. If we follow this up with defeats to Villa and Man Utd - very possible - then the top seven will be drifting right out of sight. And of course progression in the cup relies on knocking out Wolves. Such a shame that we're just so threadbare.
It's not because the wall can jump. Look at JWP's 2nd free kick v Villa. Mings didn't jump and it cost them a goal.
Let's hope Vesty is back soon. But Forster back in for Macca, teach the forwards to shoot and happy days
Wouldn't lose any sleep over defeat today. we didn't do that badly all things considered. 3 of our starting back 4 out was always going to be a struglle. Fair play to Arsenal they played really well, even Cedric! Pity we didn't have this fixture a couple of months ago. Go one nil up and Arsenal could have been g(o)oners!
Not too worried about today's defeat. With a thin squad defending was a struggle and we gifted Arsenal their first two goals - they beat us at our own high pressing game. Offense looked decent when we got the ball to them. Armstrong back to his best. If we can have a few extras back by the weekend that would be great.
And the good news is:- Saturday 30th January 2021 20:00 KO SOUTHAMPTON V ASTON VILLA Referee: Lee Mason. Assistants: Mark Scholes, Simon Long. Fourth official: Tim Robinson. VAR: Mike Dean. Assistant VAR: Andy Halliday.
Regarding Ings: it took Armstrong about a month to get back to his best after Coronavirus and it may take Ings time too. We need to be patient and ensure others chip in with goals.
Important win for us in the end, especially after Arteta being under fire for heavily rotating on the weekend. But it was clear you suffered from having KWP and Bertrand out (among others). I’m under no illusions. Felt we started the game very well, and despite you guys going 1-0 up, we were the better side for the first 15 minutes. You guys wrestled control of the game and it became stretched from 16th minute until the 35th minute or so. We were a bit fortunate that some of our players have good recovery speed, as you were carving us open in midfield and defence at will. Your pressing is very intense so we definitely rode our luck a little. Then we took advantage of some sloppy defending from your CBs and goalkeeper. Saka is quality, ain’t he? Thought you came out fighting in the second 45 (I’d expect no less) and had us penned in our half for a little while, albeit without creating an awful lot. We tried to hit you on the counter and looked threatening, but I think we were deliberately trying to take the sting out the game and slow it down. 3rd goal was just a lovely cross field ball by Cedric to Saka and your whole defence switched off, as Laca tapped it home, which effectively killed the game. Thought we edged it tonight and were justified winners but I still believe you guys have potential to have a great season and I hope you do. All the best
Pretty much how I saw it. A draw would have been maybe fair, but you did edge it. Didn't help that we kept giving the ball to you and McCarthy for no reason came out for the second. However, to be fair we gave the ball away so much as you did a Saints and pressed us into making rushed passes. All I can say though is to BT Sport - please retire Keown or don't let him near an Arsenal game.
