...and to bring the thread back to its title, sort of, Mauricio says Rooney is one of the best in the world.
Good debate As much as i'm uncomfortable with the notion I do agree a little with what Barton was saying about Rooney and his progression as a footballer. Has their been significant improvement from the kid that burst on to the scene? He is still a great and talented footballer with a decent attitude on the pitch, but when you compare him with Ronaldo & Bale and how they've progressed as footballers and athletes then it's a fair question to ask as to whether Rooney has got the best out of himself. A great player who has had and will continue to have a great career and will no doubt break individual records in a united shirt, but his career has been constantly shadowed by the expectations and promise of those early seasons
Back to Pochettino, in his press conference he was obviously asked about the Spurs job. As always, gave no real answer (they still have a manager and I still have a year on my contract) and said he'll talk with the board at the end of the season, but he confirmed his long term future is in the Premier League. For anyone interested, Paddy Power have it at 11/2... so...
Yeah I think it'll be a real measure of the new board's ambition whether he stays or not. Seems to be keeping his options open. Hard to know whether he really wants to leave or he's just angling for better terms...
Surely Van Gaal will be the new Spurs manager. Rumours that Levy has met with him all through this season, he will step down from the Holland job after the World Cup, and he has stated that he want to manage in the PL. Plus, didn't Ruud Gullit say something to the BBC about Van Gaal definitely being at Spurs next season? I don't see why Mauricio would want to leave anyway. 15 months ago he came to England with nobody knowing who he was really, and wondering whether he could do a good job. Now, he is loved by the supporters and the players, and we are watching a young, energetic Saints side play some excellent football. He has the chance to really shape the team how he wants now, and to kick us on into Europe, if he wants to. In my honest opinion, Spurs would not be a good job for him. Levy is a poor chairman, who doesn't give managers a chance, and also Spurs don't have the academy that we have. I think they are a club, who think they are better than they are, and have a divine right to be in the top four, but in reality they are a way off.
That was more of a cross-examination than a press conference. Salas even got a bit shirty at one point after the same reporter asked the same question with a slight variation on the wording about four times. Worth noting that Poch has says he doesn't particularly care for the Europa League, given that Spurs will almost certainly be in it next season.
Yep, same here. I find it most interesting that the sports media have taken the general spin that Poch will probably be leaving Saints, when the obvious answer is that he'll be staying. This is because his policy is not to answer their speculative questions. He has said time and again [I have seen it in Press conferences at least half a dozen times] that he will not talk about the if's and but's, but will tell the media when there is news to tell. Plus everybody and their dog now knows that he has one year left on his current contract to run and that he expects to be coaching the side at the start of the season. So where is the uncertainty..? One might as well ask Brendon Rodgers if he is staying at Liverpool, or Pelegrini if he intends to stay at Man City.
Yes skip Europa and go straight to Champions Seriously though the Board will have to pump some money in if thats going to happen.
Just been to SaintsWeb.....I know, I know, but it's quiet on here at the moment....it's amazing that we all know the same facts (i.e. none) and have heard the same statements from Mauricio (all is calm, we will see in the summer, have another year on contract), yet views range from he is certain to go and he is certain to stay. However, one poster fair took my breath away (and that isn't easy ) by suggesting that many fans supported MP more than Saints and would go with him!!! We didn't go with Nigel did we?....and he got us two promotions. I can see players might go with a manager, but fans....never!
Interestingly, one of the solid sources with regard to news at the club for quite some time, says all the players are happy, including Gastón. Also said whoever the manager is next season, they'll be given about £30m to spend. Oh and he's 70% confident Poch will stay.
I'll take the role of David Salas here: [with pen in left hand writes line across page for new subject] Speed up Mr Poch, er hurry Mr Poch. Please sign on the line dotted, er dotted line. What will we do without David..? Will we follow David after Mauricio takes his solo proper..?
por favor firme, y luego los medios de comunicación tendrán que inventar historias sobre otros pesebres durante 5 minutos por lo menos. y luego asegurarse de que ninguno de nuestros jugadores son vendidos por favor.
You could tell those clever journalists had been working on the wording of their questions all week to try and design a response. Spurs would be a difficult job to turn down, no? Ricky Villa and Ossie Ardilles are heroes in Argentina, is Tottenham a revered club in your homeland? How much money will you get to spend in the summer with the reported financial difficulties? (Please come to spurs so we don't have to travel down the M3 every week) All pretty straight battered. Us fans probably would have preferred him to say turning down the spurs job would be easy, but he laughed at the question and that will do for me.
Yeah, I doubt that teams are bidding on many players anywhere at the moment. £30m (assuming that doesn't include whatever we get for Osvaldo, and is the transfer budget rather than covering all related expenses for acquired players), Poch back and no sales would suit me fine.
I've taken JRod's injury and the possible loss of Mauricio and Luke on the chin, but you now throw the curve ball of suggesting that my beloved David and his knitwear could be leaving as well. How much is a woman supposed to take
