In a way, it no news at all; "employee in last year of fixed contract starts talks about another contract" shock! But on another level, if there are negotiations ongoing, that really does indicate that MP is at least interested in staying and there is merely the usual haggling over remuneration to worry about. This would be good news indeed....assuming that it's true, of course. I think this story is probably based upon something and unlike the usual player/ manager wanting away type of nonsense, this is unlikely to be simply the leaking of a story by an agent keen to enhance his fee. Good news, but ultimately, no hard news, yet.
Pochettino was in Manchester last night to watch the U21s play. (Mauricio shown at 1:35 in the video)
This is the kinda thing that makes me think he wants to stay. Surely if he wanted to go he'd not really care.. Might be me being silly though.
Attention from the first team manager and opportunities to train with the first team from age 16-17 must do a lot for the confidence of the youngsters that they will get a chance if they knuckle down. We don't have a massive academy with so many youngsters that most end up going out on loan or get moved on...we have a select group who are promised opportunities if they stick with it. I feel sure that MP will sign another contract...I think he has bought into our philosophy. There may be bigger sides and he may feel one day that he wants to manage one of those, but there can't be many that share his views about bringing through a large number of academy graduates to the first team. Top sides who seek instant rewards do not seem willing to take the risk.
How can you say that about a newspaper who suggests our manager will stay? I love the way we hail the stories we like!
If he stays it will be our best signing this season, I still believe he might not be as good as we all think and seems a bit of a one trick pony but the players love him and him staying will go a long way in deciding who goes and who stays in the summer.
Must remember that he has had only just over a years experience...that doesn't equate to many games. He is learning about the PL at the same time as the team. He does favour playing the same way and making others adjust...that has never been the case for Saints in all the time I have watched them...I like it.
Did you see the article they ran about Pardew's headbutt? They said something along the lines of how most people in football come from working class backgrounds, but everyone except Pardew has been able to grow out of their thuggishness. So...the working class are all thugs? I already suspected they thought that, but to just write it down so blatantly...
Simon Peach ‏@SimonPeach 1m Expecting an announcement from #SaintsFC shortly. Keep 'em peeled Is it this or am I getting trolled? edit: cancel that, just seen the Kruger thing.
To fill the time, here's a rather disconcerting picture of Mauricio... https://twitter.com/lovenotkate/status/443889027591057408
I was taking the Mickey. There are only two ways I know what is in the papers: someone posts an article here, or whatever I use to line the rabbit tray and that is usually a local one.
Does explain Katharina's sudden interest in playing an active role at Saints. This is an example of something that looks a good idea at the time....then scroll forward a few years and wonder why the lads are sniggering on the training ground.
MP: “From my point of view, the speculation ended in mid-January when Katharina told me there was no intention to sell the Club.” #saintsfc MP: “It’s clear that this club needs tranquility after the upheaval of January. We need to move forward in a calm and relaxed manner.” MP says he’s looking forward to the completion of #SaintsFC’s new training ground. “It will make life a lot more comfortable,” he says. Sounds promising...
