This defeat is so much easier to stomach than the Cardiff one for the main reason that I know that we can play much better than how we played tonight.
I had a chuckle at one of the commentators comments “The ball won’t sit down for Shane Long”. I thought “It never fecking does mate”.
I’ll call you Shane Long... couldn’t take your chance no matter how much it was presented to you Now, good night.
Does McCarthy need a rest? Poor positioning for their first and also the Huddersfield goal the other day. He still makes good saves but also a few errors this season.
The commentators were awful, near the beginning one of them described Ings keeping Austin out of tye team this season as 'no small achievement'
Sorry, disagree. We were not that bad. It was better than anything under MP2 or MH. So l still see the pluses, not as good as the last 2 games still better than the ****e of the last season and a half. In the end some poor refereeing gifted the second goal, AC somehow was still on the pitch after 1 minute. They were better but a draw was not an unreasonable result.
I didn't think we were poor - I thought we were tired. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we get at least a point at the weekend...
Both shots were beautifully struck to be fair. McCarthy was left exposed for the second and he was positioned centrally for the first. Easy to say his positioning was wrong on the first, but if he had covered the right post more and the player had curled it inside the left hand post - he would be criticised.
JWP wasn't a happy bunny tonight - threw his training bib on the floor when elyounoussi came on instead of him.
Not sure I agree that we were better than under Hughes. We've generally played alright all season, scored a goal, gone ahead and then given away the 3 points. We were pretty much back to form tonight which was disappointing. Chances were spurned again. Redmond once again should have done better with that first shot instead of hitting it straight at Fabianski and Lemina really should have scored with his chance. Once again, this has been our problem all season. Early evidence suggest the Hutt will work them through this but it won't be a quick fix. We really lack quality, quality players but we are showing much better since he arrived than before so no need to be too hard on the team.
Well no, if Anderson had curled it into the far corner nobody would be criticising McCarthy because you hold your hands up and say ok, great goal. I may be being harsh but to me McCarthy didn’t even get close - through positioning/reflex/being unsighted. We’ve got a £15M goalkeeper who’s very talented and McCarthy has had no break from the team for a long time now.
