Rupert is not sticking the knives in. Admits he has nothing to do with the club, so can't really comment.

    Stomach settling.

Telegraph quote: "Katharina Liebherr, now the owner of Southampton, could walk down any High Street in Hampshire and be certain of going unrecognised. There is not one single picture of her in the public domain, she seldom attends matches and yet it is Liebherr - and not chairman Nicola Cortese - who owns and has the ultimate control of Southampton". Odd someone that is even more secretive than NC. What are we involved with here?

Why is that odd? It's called having a private life. She never asked to own a football club, her father bought it and she inherited it and probably has been keeping his wishes alive, perhaps against her better judgement.

Would you have recognised Markus Liebherr walking down the street before he bought Saints?

    Rupert Lowe said...

"I think Liebherr did a very good deal and was obviously a great benefactor for the club. It's very sad that he subsequently died and couldn't see what great happiness he has provided."

"I think the main aspect now is the academy that has been established, and the stadium - which wouldn't be possible now."

"I'm just disappointed we couldn't hold it all together at the time, the academy and the managers."

"The club is in a great position now."

"The club, the infrastructure, everything... it's a fantastic club."

"I loved being involved with Southampton, over a period of time the long-term can't be perfect with the short-term."

"I'm back in the real world, earning some money. There's not much chance of me going back into football."

"The investment of Markus Liebherr has done wonders for the club."

"Southampton are back where they should be, in command of the south coast."

"We had to play the kids. I loved watching the inter-play between those who had been together a long time."

"All credit must now go to the manager, Pochettino, for continuing this and encouraging talent... and winning games."

"Hopefully stability will be maintained at Southampton."

Nothing wrong with that, she did inherit us after the untimely death of her father. Even raising concerns about expenditure is normal, but I don't understand is how she could possibly think we'd be as a attractive to sell without NC pulling us along on his coat tails, that just does not compute.

We're involved with people more interested in getting on with their lives and business than appearing in the business or gossip pages. And I approve entirely.

Also, for those who want the club to speak out more, think on. If you EVER comment on press speculation, you have to continue doing so, as "no comment" becomes a statement in itself and you're on the treadmill.

Lowe essentially bigged up the legacy he left, mentioned the stadium several times (which was completely irrelevant to any question he was asked) then babbled on about the academy structure he had created.

Indeed, that was inevitable. But he did praise the current regime. We know he did it because it would have been totally twisted to do otherwise, but he didn't give any ammunition to rival supporters, and remembered to talk about Saints dominating South Coast football.

He certainly could have said worse things and he didn't. Saved my heaving stomach.

Anyone with her kind of clout in this country would have The Sun encamped on her doorstep, if she can keep the hounds away, she certainly gets my utmost admiration, well done her.

Paul Gascoigne has just turned up at St. Mary's with some cans, a fishing rod and a bucket of fried chicken.

If these reports are to be believed Cortese isn't being sacked, he's resigning. There's obviously some clash of wills here but without knowing what the clash is about we can't really say what's right or wrong.

Just to present an alternative point of view, is it really reasonable to expect the owner of a business worth £100m-plus to have no input whatsoever into how that business runs and just allow someone else total control?

It's also possible she wants to sell and now has a choice between putting the club up for sale (which means Cortese leaves) and staying as owner of the club when she wants to sell it. Is it fair or reasonable to expect her to stay as owner when she doesn't want to?
