No, that would be something worth cherishing and would bolster his CV :D

On a serious note though as much as it shouldn't. AVB's short stint at Chelsea will always count against him. It shouldn't, because Chelsea have been through some of the best managers in world football but it will.

Comparing AVB to Redknapp is like comparing Mark Hughes situation to that of Nigel Adkins.

I totally get why some Spurs fans were glad to see the back of Redknapp, but that man took you from the brink of the Championship to a team that was outplaying AC Milan at the San Siro and CL QF's with the likes of Real Madrid. The 5-2 shouldn't have been held against Redknapp that's where I disagree with PowerSpurs. Totally different situation

  3. I wasn't having a pop, Relayer69.

I appreciate that this is an emotive subject, and one that is splitting the opinion of Spurs fans across the world. There are going to be difficult times (and decisions) ahead, and there is every danger that opinion that is already divided will cause some of us to be even more entrenched in our views. I don't blame any Spurs fan for taking the contrary view to my own, or criticising me for having the opinion I do, so early on in the season.

But this is a forum that has been created for football debate, and none of us can deny that this is a subject that is now ripe for debate, whichever side of the divide we may currently occupy.

I truly hope that I am proven wrong to have voiced my concerns. I'll gladly take the flak from everyone of you, if AVB turns out to be our saviour. No one, particularly me, wants the mighty Spurs juggernaut to stall, whoever may be at the wheel.

I'm prepared for this to get ripped apart but here goes...

When you've just lost the NLD 5-2 you're going to be dammed whatever you say in the post match interview. I think he did the right thing in not placing the blame publicly at the feet of Ade. Of course in private I suspect he probably got an earful from the manager and his fellow players for getting sent off but if AVB had come out on Sky and blamed Ade for putting us in the position he did then he'd be slaughtered by the press and probably fall out with an important player.

Fair play to him from me for a) changing the system for the start of the game and b) having a real go in the second half. I'd far rather have seen that from a manager than some feeble attempt at damage limitation, which we have seen from AVB in second halves so far this season.

AVB will get bad press from the media for nothing else that the fact that he replaced Harry Redknapp, let alone him copping flack for poor results etc. There was always going to be a period of transition because of the nature of changing to a very different manager, mis-management of the change by Levy/ENIC and any number of other factors we can pull out. Was it right to sack Harry? I still say now that IMO it was the right thing to do, I think he'd taken us as far as he could and a different approach was needed to take us up a level. If we'd kept Harry then we may well have get top 4/5 for another season or two but I don't think we'd have moved forward. AVB was never going to be an 'immediate impact, quick fix' manager, he was always going to take time to bed in and get settled because of the hangover from Redknapp and his times at Chelsea. Let him build his own team, let him get the players he wants to do it (as far as we can provide with our current spending rates) and then, when he's really shown us how he wants the club to play we can judge him. This was always a risky appointment (and personally I think that if AVB really fails properly, then Levy will go with him) but to announce his failure after less than half a season is not only ludicrous but also makes us as bad as many of the Liverpool/Chelsea fans that we seem to spend so much time taking the piss out of.

Don't get me wrong I had my reservations when AVB was appointed and I still have some of them now, and new ones have emerged now we're really seeing him at work. But the signs are there that he is changing his mindset - to me his use of 4-4-2 and his willingness to go for it after half time with only 10 men are signs that his previously rigid, conservative approach may be slowly changing - and I am encouraged by this. The defeats still hurt, especially to Chelsea and Arsenal, and the fact that we're losing games we should be winning is problematic. But we've seen that when he's got some key players available then his methods can work, like they did at Old Trafford.

If AVB is still here in, say, 2 years time and we haven't progressed and have fallen out of competition for CL places then I will be the first to hold up my hand and admit that I was wrong to have optimism at this point. But I just think that to write him off so early is wrong, especially when there slow but steady signs of encouragement. In my eyes at least.

    Right, open fire.

Bullshit! Quite nicely written, but bullshit nevertheless. This is so poor I am not taking it seroiusly you do much better than this HIAG when attacking Liverpool.

Not worth replying to but good for a laugh. <ok>

People often accuse others of that which they are guilty of themselves and this is a good example. Bring on the clowns.

Jeez relayer and PNP responded to you because you're making no sense at all.

    Here's one of your quotes:

How can I, as a hardened Spurs fan of some 4 decades, be accused of wanting AVB to succeed?

Now do you see why PNP said about the Freudian slip and about you missing a 'not' out?

  11. Are you being stupid on purpose?

I'm sorry, but I am not going to repeat what I have already written, especially as I have already expressed myself in language that a 6 year old would understand.

  13. What is your problem?

Can't handle the fact that someone on this pathetic board is actually prepared to write what most fans are saying on the terraces?

All down to January for me now.

we'll have everyone back and AVB will certainly have had plenty of time to work out where the squad needs replacements. It's a massive month for us.

AVB is a clown? That's stating the obvious now. We all saw what a clown he was last season when he got sacked by Chelsea. Imagine being that stupid that you sack the best manager you have had in year's and replace him with AVB <laugh>. Daniel Levy, take a bow.

Actually you are wrong - I can deny it is a subject for debate. 12 games is far too early to be debating whether AVB will do the job we want him to. More than that - it is a dangerous subject to air and if picked up by the media will add fuel to their moneymaking objectives by claiming Spurs fans want AVB out.

If you succeed in getting AVB out HIAG do you propose the replacement is given 12 games to prove himself. Sorry - still think on this you are the clown
