I don't think AVB was to blame for Saturday's defeat in the NLD. He picked an attacking team and we were playing good football before Adebayor's moment of madness. AVB made some good changes at half-time and we played very well indeed during the second half.
For what ever reasons we lost, it was an embarrassing , disgraceful defeat . The scoreline says it all.
Then I hope you called for Harry's head after the same embarrassing disgraceful scoreline last year - when he had many fewer injury problems and no-one got sent off
spot on PS and no i doubt it if people called for Harry's head..infact Harry thanked these fans further by ruining the run in to the season aswell.
Incidentally - I don't think we should ever call for the manager to resign, at least not in a way that undermines him. He is in charge of the future of our great and glorious club and is entitled to our support.
Its all been said about Hudd PNP I agree, there's players that would like his 'frame' and would put it to the good use it should be.
It's not about swapping duties though Notso and I'm not disagreeing with the fact that Huddlestone could and should have done a hell of a lot more but my whole point is had Dawson been there, I'd say there was a good chance that he himself would have picked up Mertesacker as the positioning of our back line would have been different with a different player on the pitch, you could even go as far as saying had Dawson been on the pitch with Vertonghen at LB, the whole scenario could have been prevented but admittedly that sounds a little farfetched, I know this can never be proven as we can't rewind time and stick Daws in over Naughton but I'm just trying to make a case as to why I think having Gallas and Vertonghen together at CB and sticking Naughton, a right footed left back against the pace of Walcott was a poor decision. I know I can never 100% prove Dawson would definitely have prevented the goal (or any others for that matter), with Dawson starting we COULD have lost 6 or 7-2 who knows but the main point I'm trying to get at is even if we completely disregard the Mertesacker goal, when your two other aerially dominant CB's are out (Kaboul & Caulker) then surely logic would just say the next in line comes in and starts?... Which to me is Dawson. Everytime Arsenal got to the byline and made a cross, it was always a heart in mouth moment for me as I never had much confidence Vertonghen and Gallas as the ones to deal with all the aerial threats. Overall I just think we would have been a lot, lot stronger in defence if we lined up with Walker/ Naughton, Dawson, Gallas, Vertonghen and that's the main point I'm trying to get at. If it looks like I've strayed a little off point and focused too much on the Mertesacker goal I apologise. I just think with the defence selected to start, we were always going to be in for a bumpy ride, with or without the sending off of Adebayor (which really f*cked things up and made it 100x worse for us).
I am not calling for any body's head. I do have little confidence in our manager's mainly boring , negative football but I see he should be given time, even that it will be one almighty cock up.
That's exactly how I see it, too, Sidney Fiddler. The "reasonable voice" of most of the Spurs fans on this board are doing nothing more than giving a marked-man enough rope to hang himself with. Unfortunately, for the rest of us "unreasonable" Spurs fans, he's taking the club down with him. At this rate, we're going to end up back where we were under Ramos, with the life having been sucked out of the team.
where was your demands for his sacking after the win at old trafford? I am not an AVB fan...never wanted him...still don't but sacking a bloke 12 games into the season when we are 4 points off 4th when 4 KEY players are missing seems bizarre to me. I'm sure I remember you claiming that the "mighty spurs Juggernaut" was revving up 3 or 4 matches ago...
Well said RCL I actually was impressed with his interview performance yesterday and the team did pretty well in the circumstances. Maybe not a good as he made out, but it was never the rout that the 5-2 score line suggested. Now is not the time to be openly slagging AVB off - for a start we are only a quarter through the season and have had 4 key players sidelined for most of that. HIAG - sorry mate, but you are way off on this one. Far too early for such personal vitriol.
How can I, as a hardened Spurs fan of some 4 decades, be accused of wanting AVB to succeed? No one wanted that more than I did, but my wanting or wishing it hasn't made it happen, and I am not bound to keep hoping and praying for ever. Of course I celebrated our win over United at OT, and I didn't called for his sacking then any more than I am demanding it, now. But one swallow does not make a Summer. I'd rather we had lost against United, if I thought that AVB was the right man for the job, and could steer us to 4th, or even 5th, this season. AVB will eventually get sacked without my pushing him out the door; but don't expect me to sit idly by and voice nothing of my concerns, when the evidence for him being a clown is there for every one of us to see. If some of you refuse to see what is before your eyes, there is nothing more I can do about that.
No, I want the man to succeed. I desperately want the man to succeed. I had my doubts, right from the start, that he was the man for the job, and everything he has done since taking up the appointment has done nothing other than to confirm my doubts; but that hasn't suddenly made me want him to fail. But there comes a point when blind loyalty and hopeless faith become nothing more than foolish delusions; and I believe that all of you who are clinging to the dream that he'll magically come good are now deluding yourselves. I would love nothing more than to be proved wrong, and for every single one of you to rub my nose in that fact. But I began distrusting his appointment, and I am now more distrusting, 12 games in. Can I make my position any clearer?
No. Relayer69 was throwing my "mighty Spurs juggernaut" image back at me, as though by using it (as I had done under Redknapp's stewardship) I was somehow a hypocrite for turning on AVB, now. But I used that image because I want AVB to succeed. Ergo, how can I be accused (by using the image of the juggernaut) for wanting AVB to succeed?
In which case your 'of' should've been 'for'. I think that it's hard to dispute the flip from not wanting Villas-Boas as manager to the mighty Spurs juggernaut image and back again, HIAG. It does make you look a little Scouse, frankly.
Sorry, but you are making absolutely no sense, and appear to be willfully ignoring what I said. Let me explain it further. Stage 1: Harry is sacked and AVB's name is mentioned as a possible replacement. I (and others) express serious concerns. Stage 2: AVB is appointed, and I remain concerned, but (like others with concerns) make it clear that I am prepared to give the man a chance. On the few occasions when we have won a game, I celebrate with my now (infamous) "mighty Spurs juggernaut" image. I still have concerns that he is the right man, but I want him to be successful. Stage 3: I am accused of double-standards, because whilst I have, on the odd occasion when we have won, used my "mighty Spurs juggernaut" image, I now repeat my concerns regarding AVB's stewardship of our club. Stage 4: I complain that I cannot be accused of wanting AVB to succeed. It is what every Spurs fan wants, even if they doubt that AVB is actually up to the task. You can argue semantics all day long, but what I originally said makes complete and perfect sense.
Harry had you 3rd though. He's led you to your first CL campaign, AVB is different. Rightly or wrongly AVB has a black mark against his name that Harry didn't.
