Some highlights from different years*: BMX Hornby train set Scalextric TV Game with Pong Meccano TV Stereo (record player, cassette and radio) Stereo (the portable kind one might carry on the shoulder that were popular amongst ethnic types) Not a bad list and we were poor. *Some of them may have been birthday presents.
Cause he flicked the kick, and I never knew? That Kevin was indeed a cheating ****. Nice jacket though
I was hoping your answer would have been that your ma said they cost a packet. I am disappointed, mate. Maybe ER will say it instead.
Hello Ponders, quick question. If a team has played "a game less" technically should it be "a game fewer" because game is a countable noun? I have never heard anybody say "a game fewer" and it just doesn't sound right, but if one team has played 9 games and one has played 10 then surely the team who has played 9 has played a game fewer. Thanks in advance, buddy
Please wait until the adults have stopped talking before you spout your pish. Thanks in advance, buddy.
All good mate, my mum is over just now. Was supposed to be back to work on the 7th but has now been changed to the bastard 3rd!
It is definitely "a game fewer", my friend. You are basically saying Team A has played one game fewer than Team B. Many people use "less" when talking about single countable nouns in such a context, but that doesn't make it right. But you are right to say "one less" is far more common than "one fewer" in today's choice of language. I'm probably just old-fashioned in my views. There are exceptions to the fewer/less rule, such as time, distance and money - as in "...less than 20 miles to Kilmarnock". Trust your instincts.
@Ponders Revisited ...and the other has played one more game or played an extra game? #whoami4chrimbo
She arrived on the 16th and goes back on the 2nd. At least there is a female in the house that I like speaking to now. Yeah can't complain, been off since the 14th although I did go into the office for a couple of hours on the 17th.
