Yes he was, his employer wanted him to wear it, and they should have made him. He chose not to because of some invented reason that wearing it was disrespectful to some fallen Irish folk. For reasons already stated he was on a false premise..... Nothing more to add....

I don't need to. He is a gob-****e of the highest order, not to mention all his other **** ups on twitter. I couldn't care less what he has to say, why did he not say it when he was at Sunderland. I'm sure he had some PR expert who helped him with whatever he had to say. He's quick enough to take the queens pound. <ok>

In fairness to 60 - I usually agree with his recommendations of players and find myself agreeing again here. I personally think Mclean is brilliant at Championship level and although maybe I don't agree with his non poppy wearing antics I wouldn't use it against him, he's entitled to his opinion, least he didn't cave in about it.

Tell me this, Glory - if Leeds were to make a donation to the tory party & insisted that their emblem shared our shirt with ours - would you wear it? Suspect the answer's no. Would you expect all the players to wear it? Well going by he argument you present, I guess the answer is yes, you would expect it. Point taken?
The lad is entitled to make a choice. He did. End of. Or are you in favour of the promotion of bullying & tugging forelocks to your rich masters?

I agree that he has a choice WJ. But if we put the poppy thing aside, he is still a prize twat for all the other things he's said and done.

The poppy is a symbol of remembrance and raises money for ex servicemen via the British legion, your argument is not even close to being similar, and if you think it is go take a look at yourself.

Am I the only person who believes a footballer should be judged on their football ability or is that old fashioned. My gran died of lung cancer caused by smoking I don't judge Jack Charles.

    Granted that's a terrible argument because I smoke, but you know . . .

That you should judge a footballer by his ability as a player. I know it got a bit lost in a whiskey phazed sub text :D.

No, it's you that's missing the point. It's about his freedom of choice. The lad has made his choice, whatever his reasons, and he's free to do so. Countless soldiers gave their lives so that he had that choice. You are the one who's disrespecting what the fallen died for.

Nope. As an individual he can make whatever choice he wants. But as a role model footballer taking the pay of his employer he should have sucked it up when they made their free choice of having the poppy shirt. This is my last word on this....
