This is where the stand got its name from. Notice the absence of a letter 's'. http://www.cityofboston.gov/FreedomTrail/bunkerhill.asp
I think its awful, parents allowing their children to grow up supporting Liverpool! I was a season ticket holder at 6..... I went to Boothferry park only, I didn't have another team. Supporting Liverpool as their heroes play for them, what a load of rubbish.
I can understand kids supporting Hull City now, but when we were bumping along the bottom of division 4? kids are fickle, they want to be associated with ManU and Liverpool.
Not arguing with that. Everyone called it Bunkers. This lead to it becoming accepted practice to call it Bunkers Hill. But it was based on Bunker Hill where the battle was fought not Bunkers Hill which didn't exist. Whatever, it sounded better than North Stand or East Stand.
Mine didn't. And I didn't put any pressure on them. Chuffed that they aren't glory hunting inadequates. Of course they had a really top chap and all round good egg as a father setting them a good example, unlike some of the excuses of a parent too common in Hull.
yeah some parents in Hull, (mine included) didn't really support the local football team. My dad isn't into sport. So I was left to my own devices - I guess I CHOSE Liverpool as the team to follow cos of their past successes. I was a fickle glory hunter back then, so I can relate to these little kids. Not enough parents are strong enough to show their children what should be done.
Mine didn't. Mine have grown up among proper Man Utd supporters & a few Scouse ones, not once did they want of feel the need to be associated with them. Driving back last night my lad couldn't wait to get to work this morning just to rub it in the faces of a few of his Scouse colleagues. Proper kids, brought up not to be fickle. A weakness, no doubt inherited from their parents.
Spion Kop was in the Boer War. Bunker Hill was the first major battle between us and the Yanks in the American War Of Independence. Quite why the name got applied at Boothferry Park would be interesting to find out.
