You make a fair point Andy. From a personal point of view I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one to put it mildly. Although I try to empathise with mental illness as much as I can in my limited capacity. What I still struggle to deal with is that when people try to take their own lives they have to involve other innocents. The poor lorry driver going about his daily business and to then suddenly have to deal with that in it's immediacy and then to have the mental scarring for the rest of his life. Unfortunately in my line of work I get to see this kind of stuff on almost a monthly basis. It's seriously unpleasant and it affects so many people directly and indirectly. I suppose that it's all part of the human stain that can't be remedied. Not in our lifetime anyway.
The sad thing is that I suspect people who attempt to end their lives in this way seldom act rationally, so thoughts for the lorry driver are unlikely to have featured too highly in the overall plan.
