A single currency Europe was never going to work. How is it that pre-Euro you could get a pint of lager in Spain/Greece/Portugal for the equivalent of 50p but since the single currency prices across Europe all levelled out at the higher German/French rates? Everything was increased to match the power house economies which gave previously poorer countries shed loads more money which they sp*nked up the wall and have now gone bust.

The referendum in Greece is such a blatant duck shove onto the people. No way are they going to vote for measures that cut their standard of living, pensions, increase taxes etc. They will be hoofed out of the Eurozone and will be back to the Drachma. Then comes mega inflation and the country reverts to the peasant tourist trap it always used to be.

Watch out for Portugal, Ireland, Spain & Italy. They are all laying a curly one in their pants 'cos it is going to happen their next.

What I didn't mention was that we would never have managed such feats without the assistance of the pixies and their unicorn steeds. <ok>

No, I saw something where the Greeks are taxing anything. I think it's a certain amount of money for each square foot your house has.

One thing is for sure, the Greeks are going to cause a monumental catastrophe unless something significant is done. I am not talking about yet another bail out because they haven't done anything but make things worse up until this point.

Why is Europe like a frying pan?

Because you can cook bacon in it.

Because you can hit burglars around the head with it.

You've got to love them though - they've been living on hand outs since the beginning of time, produce nothing except bad food, poorly produced olive oil and wine which even Gazza would refuse to drink, don't pay taxes because it's against their religion and then when it all goes belly up blame everyone from Nicolas Sarkozy to Noel edmonds and accept absolutley no responsibility whatsoever for it.

Most Greeks I know seem to like a bet. Couldn't we just offer them double or quits on their sovereign debt?

I read an interesting article re the greeks this week...

The germans when they occupied Greece during world war 2, they and the italians forced the greeks into a interest free loan of something in the region of 4m Reichmarks... The germans never gave this money back to Greece after the war, and in todays money with say a modest interest rate of 3% applied to the amount comes in at 60billion euros... enough to solve the problem..

Therefore I blame the crouts they should be made to pay the entire amount.
