Why are people arguing over details and semantics? We know there are risks every where in this world...there are risks in London...there's a risk of being killed in a quiet village by burglar etc.

Thats not the point. It is about a specific risk to visible minorities (ie black and asian) visiting these countries for a football tournament. There is cearly a greater risk than normal of physical and verbal attacks.

Reading through this thread it appears that some people get more worked up about the risks of racist violence being overstated than they are of the racism itself.

Any attempt at "normalising" the behaviour of racist fascist scum (ie by comparing with non racist violence elsewhere) is just another vehicle through which racism attempts to gain some sort of mainstream legitimacy. The disease in society which makes people harm each other for economic benefit (ie stealing etc) is not the same as the disease which makes somebody harm someone else not for any benefit to themselves but because of pure hate.

I don't know about you but I much rather Sol Cambell was my neighbour than the racist scum we saw in those stadiums....I'm witn you Sol.

How anyone can compare racial hatred to random violence is beyond logic. You are born the colour that you are born.

 

For the record. This thread was never about trying to deny that there is racial extremes in Polish and Ukrainian football.

It was about whether Sol Campbell's comments that you'll 'come home in a coffin' that were disputed.

 

For the record, he said you COULD come home in a coffin, not that you WOULD come home in one.

Let's all just hope it all goes off without incident.

 

I think there will be incidents. There usually are at major tournaments in Europe and there's no debate that racism exists in the domestic leagues in Poland and Ukraine. Football in England had a hard core right wing element around 20-30 years ago. But the UK authorities tackled it. The worrying thing in that Panorama doc was that the chief of police was trying to deny that there was any evidence of it, so they are clearing not tackling it.

That said, I think a major international tournament can be policed properly and is slightly different from the domestic leagues. It won't just be policed by Polish and Ukrainian forces. Special task forces from most of the major nations usually co facilitate policing strategy when it comes to managing fans from different countries.

I think it will be away from the stadiums where the flashpoints might happen.

It's still a relative point that Poland has a lower crime than the UK. (and in terms of total crimes we are also ahead of the Ukraine)

- You are considerably less likely to be violently attacked in Poland than you are in the United Kingdom.

I've been to both these countries and never had any problems or even encountered any crime while I was there.

There's far too much scare mongering going on.

 

And yet ironically I have been mugged twice in England (London) and both times it was by a group of Polish lads! Curse them skewing our crime figures!

I'd still like to go to Poland for a holiday at some point though.

Bears comments are hilarious. This guy is either living his life wearing horse blinkers or he chooses not to see the obvious. Bear just because you did not witness marauding gangs of racial thugs doesn't mean they don't exist. Anyone who watched the documentary and didn't understand the context of sols coffin comments will probably never have experienced the fear of being racially attacked. Simple as that.

As for ballotteli even he is prepared for it. I agree he should walk if racially abused. Anyone think he is overreacting?
