Did anyone else manage a team in Soccer Supremos?

Back in the early-mid nineties, me and my fellow Welling School chums were obsessed with this "play by mail" game. I think it was eventually killed by the success of Championship Manager (which I never could get into), but it was way before anyone I knew owned a PC, or even knew what t'internet was.

If it is revived, as this post suggests, I may just be tempted to play again.

I'm sure it would all be internet based now, although I would be just as happy (probably happier) to play the paper based game of old.
 
I'm not sure which company it was, but I did do one of those mail games and used to love it. First thing I would do when I returned home from school would be to check the post.

I remember having Leeds United for ages - I can't remember why I stopped it. I think it coincided with a holiday and coming back being annoyed about something. It also taught me the definition of ''declined''. Educational as well as fun!
 
I started out as manager of Plymouth with my dad, who sat at the bottom of the first division in league 97 (four divisions per league that had no basis on reality). Then Norwich came available, who were a top 6 team, so with the integrity shown by many top flight managers, I dumped my dad quick as a flash and applied for the job :)

The beauty was that all my mates were in the same league, so we often played each other, and had plenty of banter on the message pages. I also like the one game per week pace, unlike other games now that allow you to complete an entire season in a day if you wanted.
 
I used to love reading the match reports. Right after reading that it was always to the transfer market page.

Do you know how they used to run these games? Was it software they created, a game available on the market, or did they just type and print everything? I only ask as I never got the players I wanted and just wonder how it was done.
 
I would imagine it was some sort of software, as I think there were over 200 leagues, each with 80 teams (so 40 games per week). Thinking about it now, it must have been a mission enough just inputting the data, unless they had a pretty smart OCR system.

I know what you mean about the transfers, I never had much luck there either.
