It just shows how bad we both are doesn't it? Only a few years ago Luton were non-league and now they are probably going to the play-offs and possibly further. Small ground and small crowds doesn't mean you can't have ambition, as they clearly show, whilst our lot wander around in the football wilderness which is a shocking damnation of our faithful followers. Perhaps if we were back in League One we might get to Wembley in the just show up final and bring home a tin pot trophy designed for the also rans like us. Bloody shameful lack of ambition.

Birds of a feather we may be but nest sharing isn't on the agenda, especially as I'm married to a Robin (though I have managed to create a soft spot for Bluebirds in her heart)

In response to Mike above, I feel your pain mate but when frustrations like that set in for me, I do tend to take stock and think is being a "solid" Championship team so bad?

Having watched us play in the old 4th and 3rd divisions, struggling at times, it does make me grateful for being able to watch us compete at the level we do.
I appreciate it's marginally easier for us given our brief stays in the supposed "big time" as well as having been to two cup finals (childhood dream almost met... Shame we couldn't win either but loved the fact we were there) but you guys have had some fun along the way too, not least your league cup run a few seasons back....

Not all bad, and to be honest, I believe this constant belief that a club should always be able to keep progressing which is effectively foisted on us by the media IS unrealistic.
Occasionally you have to accept your lot in life and just hope (not expect) more is to come.

This part of your post Bluebird I totally agree with, you are spot on, management, owners and players change constanly but fans of all clubs stick with their own clubs regardless and we can all dream.

Stability in the Championship is ok with me - not brilliant - could be better - but could also be a lot worse.
Of course I want to see us in the Prem (who wouldn't?)
Come to think of it I'd love for us to WIN the Prem title and take Europe by storm, but for now, with feet firmly planted on the ground, the Championship is as good as I've known for a long time suffering as a City fan, since the early 80s.

Some very interesting points raised when posters respond positively to a discussion. No doubt the covid situation this past 2 years has had an adverse effect on the vast majority of championship level clubs, but could that just be a convenient excuse for some?

Whilst we've managed to blag our way into the Prem under Warnock once, the indifferent performances tablewise over here in particular this past half dozen years have been obvious with little sign of real progress. Owners stay the same and it's the managers that change, but is there any real progress?

There appears to be a tendency to accept the status quo as being sufficient. That may be regarded as the safe option, but taking a more positive approach when others are obviously suffering maybe a better option.

This is not club bias speaking because a lot on our board feel the same. Are we all using the word "stability" when we really mean stagnation?

You missed your opportunity after you came back down last time, whatever happened to your PP?, most relegated clubs bounce straight back due to the inequality of the PP system.

I neither love him nor hate him. I thought the same of him as a player. I thought he was 'ok' - not brilliant - not even THAT good, but nowhere near as bad as some people love to make out and I find myself defending him quite often on here, because he has taken much more than his fair share of criticism over time in both his roles at our club.
For example, I was in the crowd in the Dolman when we beat WBA at home under GJ and LJ scored the winner - some t055p0t in front of me, instead of celebrating the goal, turned to his mate beside him and said '80110x - that means he will be in the side next week'. Amazing - and rather sad really - he was genuinely p1553d off - just shows the mentality of some of the 'haters' when they would rather Bristol City didn't win with LJ in the side.
I try not to let his parentage cloud my judgement that's all.
Just for the record, I thought it was right that he went when he did (sacked as manager) - although I would have left it to the end of that season so that we could have done the recruitment properly over the summer. The way that episode was (mis) handled was unprofessional and frankly embarrassing. The football had 'stagnated' and it looked like he had run out of ideas, so replacing him was a move that I supported.
However, I'm not orgasming over Pearson - to be honest in my opinion he's not struck me as being any better than LJ - certainly as far as results go - unless one gets turned on by his team's unpredictability. LJs teams became very defensive - even at home. NPs teams - well, I can't even describe his 'style', so I suppose at least there's a surprise every game - a bit like trying to guess how many minutes after 80 the final goal gets conceded!!!

I agree about NP, however he’s taken over at a very difficult time, so you can’t really compare, I will keep my council until he’s had this summer and the first 10-12 games into next season. Of course the question then will be will anyone decent want to take us on.

Agree about not bouncing back straight away like others because of the parachute cash advantage. That was down to a lack of guts and foresight at the top at the club in sticking with Warnock's big personality management rather than recognising that era was over. After a brief interlude of hope with Harris, it was obvious to most of us that at best he was a just a stopgap in the Warnock image - McCarthy was an extension of the same.

I've no idea whether our "apprentice" manager is going to do the job, but he isn't afraid to commit to change and that was a blatently obvious necessity to most of us who sit there watching the stuff served up each week. However, the decision to change tack has been made and we could still be writing the same hand-wringing stuff here this time next season - who knows?

Not saying for a moment that Pearson isn't the right one to turn your lot into "contenders" eventually, but what I'm banging on about is whether he can do it without some fairly major cash committment from Lansdown. Do you see him as a longer term manager who is prepared to wait and will bring youngsters through, or is he too impatient for that?

Lansdown has loads of cash - but FFP is not allowing him to spend it. Our club's recent losses are eye-watering and we could be in serious risk of being handed a points deduction if he is deemed to be subsidising us too much. Because of this I can't see us spending big money in the summer.
However, I can't see Pearson going anywhere as long as we remain a 'safe' Championship club, certainly not in the next couple of seasons. Obviously the big aim is to get to the Premiership (like every Championship club) and he will do his best to deliver that with the tools that he is given (cue the pun on the word 'tools' by a few posters on here!!).
I think that there are only 2 circumstances under which he would leave in the next couple of years:
- If we get relegated he'd be sacked - or he would walk beforehand to avoid getting a relegation on his CV
- If we get promoted - or even look like we MIGHT get promoted - he could be head-hunted

As long as we keep bumbling around in safe Championship mediocrity he'll stay. I don't think he's done enough recently with us for there to be a risk of him being poached by another club - and his Leicester heroics are fading more and more into the past with every season.
