Erm you didnt read my post properly then. 'Shouldnt be out of the question for a club like LUFC to spent £4million-ish. But we all know it is..' And id say we had to play 5 across the middle because when we played 2 out of Howson, Killa and Johnson they were overan cos none of them put a foot in. Having Derry/Brown(or someone younger but still in the same mould) solves that problem allowing us still to play with 2 attacking but hard working wingers
And at the moment with Clayton and Brown in the middle, while we have Snoddy and either Webber or White or Pugh or Rogers or Sam, it's working how? They don't aid the team enough when we don't have the ball. Clayton and Brown are being completely overrun in the middle. They are exact equivalent of Howson and Johnson on their own. At least we had Killa to supply creativity and make sure he was available for a pass every time. Now we have nothing. We can't score and we are shipping goals. We would be better off if we had Killa, Johnson and Howson - another year playing together.
Ched 'fail in the Championship but do OK in League One exactly like Billy Paynter' Evans? Non merci. Kenny, Templeton, Chester, Pearce, Rhodes. All players we should be looking at, along with a centre mid. Not sure Norris is the right man - we still need a playmaker badly if Warnock's side is ever going to look like scoring goals. In reality, we'll get Hill, Derry and Kenny, maybe extend Clayton's contract and Bates will proclaim it a successful summer, with Warnock just about contented enough to stay till the end of the season to try and fluke a playoff challenge.
You mean Ched 'I may be about to go to jail for sexual assault' Evans? He has been brilliant for Sheff U this season, but he could be tainted goods if the court case goes against him. Too many people on their high horses regarding the bald striker at Notts County (can't remember his name - Lee summat?) to be able to accept a player like Evans. But I don't like these "let's just throw in a few names of players who may be good or who have been good at other teams" discussions. I want a manager who knows the type of play he wants toi play, and he then buys every player with that in mind. A brilliant player may come along, but if he does not fuit the style of play, forget it, we don't want him as he adds no value to the team. As such, we could go for Wimbledon style as long as every player was rock hard, tall, wide, had great stamina and speed, and knew all the tricks in the book. Or we could go for a pass and move style, triangles, and accuracy. I don't care which, as long as evry player brought in knows the ethos of play and adds value within that ethos to the team. That may mean we eventually go forward, it may not cost too much, but we would never buy a player who did not fit straight into the team.
Ched Evans was quite young though when in the Championship (admittedly only a year ago) but I still thought he showed potential. Wouldn't be a bad player to look at but there are definitely better out there. Butterfield is also out of contract, seriously can't see us getting him though. He'll probs go to a prem team, Boyd is out of contract as well but I think he's a little overrated and wouldn't be worth the wages I don't think
I agree and I think this is warnock's approach. This is what I hated about Grayson's approach, he brought players in and then thought 'where can I put them in the team' rather than thinking what type of player he wanted first, or maybe it just seemed that way
Butterfield who Browny ENDED?! Unlikely to say the least. Jordan Rhodes would be better than Boyd. Piss those small-time dickheads from Kirklees right off as well.
