For the club captain, scorer of more than 40 goals in two season, who is two years younger than a player who has just been sold for £11,000,000 and who had scored about a third less goals in those two seasons. I say £10,000,000 is a steal! Everyone has raved about McCormack, but he hasn't been consistent, Deeney has had two seasons where he has scored over 20 goals, and in one of those seasons he missed the start of it due to his jail term. How can he be worth less than McCormack?
If we offered you 7.5M 2 months back then you would have all be over the moon with that fee McCormack's transfer makes no sense to anyone with the fee. I don't want Deeney partly because I don't rate him and I wouldn't want to go into the prem with Deeney, Ulloa, Nugent, Vardy and Wood where between them they have 11 Prem goals which all belong to Nugent who wasn't too much of a success in the prem before I would want someone who is a certain to score at least 10 goals. While I believe Ulloa and Vardy are capable abit of know how can be invaluable
So where are you likely to pick up a proven Premier league goal scorer for £10M? And no, we have not changed our minds about his worth to us. Actually it has just risen as he is now club captain.
Burnley have made an £8million bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...oy-Deeney-Watford-hold-10m.html#ixzz38KUW4te2 Makes their earlier offer look silly!
I think its only a matter of time they are getting close to the 10m price tag. Did you all see that our owner was over here looking at our u21 game . lets hope he is not here to oversea a big deal. Without troy I see us as mid table . Only time will tell.
Disagree. While it seems Troy's valuation is about to be met and he will be on his way - I think a Ranegie/Vydra partnership up front could work rather well. Good luck to Troy - he has earned a shot at the Premiership and the chance to secure his family's financial future. I am sure if he would stay he would reach the promised land with us. But under the Pozzo's everyone has a price.
Agree with all of that - and who's to say that if they do sell they won't try and buy another striker? They're not interested in simply making up the numbers so I think we'll see some activity in the market
I would not like to see Troy go - but would be pleased for him personally - he has been good for us. I am more concerned about not conceding goals this year - especially in the last 10 minutes of games.
Absolutely. It can't be good for confidence at all - and you can imagine the nerves within the stadium if we're 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go. Some early season clean sheets really are essential.
This has been the case under each and everyone of our owners from the founding of the club. The Pozzos are no different (apart from, arguably, being more business savvy than most).
It is one the strange paradoxes that all football supporters have. Football clubs obtain their funds through season ticket and match day ticket sales, other retail, sponsorship and player trading, it has always been that way. Rich benefactors come and go, and put clubs at huge risk, others have sensible owners who may help financially to 'smooth' the clubs trading. Player Trading is, and always has been, a significant factor is the majority of clubs throughout the country. The players that attract bids, and the best prices, are your best players that you don't want to lose! The players that don't attract bids, or go on frees, and therefore do not help player trading, are those that are not your best players. We have to accept that if we do well as a club, our better players are spotted by 'bigger' clubs and therefore become subject to attention and bids. So, the role of the owners of clubs is to try to ensure better players have long enough contracts to ensure their valuation stays high (a players value will diminish as his remaining contract term reduces), and that when the player is sold they get the best possible price. No football fan likes to see their best players sold, but it is a fact of life that player trading is a significant part of a clubs financial survival, and it is the best players that get the attention.
Agreed but would add that really good owners do not only buy and sell in a financially astute manner - but also get a good amount of playing years out of those good "assets".
Nothing done and dusted yet. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...cepted_any_Deeney_bids_despite_another_offer/
