Holts over weight, petulant, a yard short of pace & greedy. Whilst the comparisons with Lambert were inevitable in League One, I now find them frankly insulting.
We will always have done back to back promotions before you and therefore stolen any place you had in the history books. We also did it without a millionaire bankrolling us. The cop out way. Lambert will be **** next year.
Yeah and I guess having a millionaire doesn't guarantee you success come to think of it. Selling every other player to Arsenal for 100 billion quid helps though.
I think that's a tad harsh. Yes Lbert is having a good season, but so did grant last season and he was not far from an England call up. Let's see how Ricky does next season when defenders have Sussed him out a bit
Indeed, we do need to wait and see. But, I must just add to that, Lambert has had one red card in his whole career, & that was last season where El Abd (Brighton player) got him sent off for reacting to a challenge. From what I have seen of Grant recently, he could have had 3 reds in the last four games. Care to deny, or has he just lost the freaking plot? To me, he looks a loose cannon.
History, I'm sure youve read this thread which most of us say we don't know what is up with him. We need him back to his best for the run in tbh as we can't rely on midfield and kei kamara for goals Well done on your recent upturn btw Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if hoots has a serious word with him this week re discipline
Fair play, just since his awful dive against us, he's been on a one man rampage. Playing with a smile is the key, but we all have a cross to bare.
Exactly, he's no different from last season, he's just not getting the service anymore. I think the fans who moan about him either don't go to matches or just expect him to score every game because he's the striker. He runs and runs and runs his arse off every game, it's a thankless job for him, when all he wants to do is score goals! I think he's just totally hacked off playing that system! I worry about next season and Rip van Winkel starting up front on his own, he will have exactly the same problems!
Exactly - we really need to be getting a better service to whoever is playing as a striker. Though he is faster and I feel will add a lot to the team.
What a crass comment this is. I realise the guy is on a wind up, but insulting, honestly? Of course they are going to be compared, and not just in League One, they've been compared ever since. They both come from lower-league backgrounds, similar ages, and had huge parts to play in subsequent upturns in their club's fortunes. OK, one is obviously doing better than the other currently, but as been mentioned already, that player is in a team playing to his strengths, whereas the other isn't. Agreed, Holt is not at his best, but is it any wonder? Someone said players are paid to do a job, and if they don't perform they shouldn't be above criticism despite their history. I agree with this, but feel this criticism of GH is harsh, given the formation we are currently using.
I'm not sure why but i found this comment hilarious! It reads like a spoof of someone writing an overblown pompous letter of indignation to a newspapers letter page. I can almost see it now... ' INSULTED from Southampton writes!....'
It's so encouraging to see people that haven't given up on Grant Holt. Surely getting the winner vs Everton proves he is always going to be a guy that's going to provide something. He's not been at his best, but he's still got it in him.
Fully agree with this, it should offer us the solidity and the aerial threat in the centre to benefit from crosses. Arsenal are good in the middle, I don't rate Hoolahan's chances through there, but their full-backs haven't been as good this season, so I'd like to see both wingers taking them on. Couple that with more lightweight CB's, and Becchio and Howson have a real chance of getting on the end of things. Howson will also offer us a lot more defensively too, so Snodgrass's lack of back-tracking should be less of an issue. With the 3 CM's, it should give any of them the chance to push forward too, particularly Tettey who did it so well before. On the Becchio/Holt debate, perhaps Becchio is being lined up as Holt's successor? Granted he's not much younger, and the lack of game time doesn't really tally, but I don't really think Holt is going to be at the club much longer, certainly not beyond next summer. With RvW the expensive forward signing, I don't think the money will be there for another along with the midfielders we want, so perhaps Hughton saw a chance to snap up Becchio, who arguably is the player outside of the PL most capable of filling Holty's role. Pure speculation though.
Beefy, have you seen Southampton play recently? They're a step ahead of us now, I'm afraid. There's not a cat in hell's chance that they're going down and they'll be top half next season.
