Even though I know you put > to say above but I would've raised those prices substantially. We are never going to sell Schneiderlin for any less than £20 and Lallana is probably going to be £25 at the minimum.

Even so If we made £90m+Osvaldo so say £100m we wouldn't be able to spend all that on replacements (like for like) I would suggest that the contracts we have those players on would not attract anything near what we want so we would have to raise replacement's wages by a long way to get a like for like replacement.

No player of Lallana or Schneiderlin's quality is going to come to Saints for a £50k contract. We are going to have to pay much much more if we want quality.
So if we get say £100m + the £30m you suggest we may only be spending £80m on transfer fees because we would be paying the other £50m on extra wages /agents fees etc.

Very true. So we'd only have £80M to hand to a new manager. Do you think Giggs could be the man?

Maybe I'm naive but I can't see any of our main players going unless Poch goes. If he stays, which I think is likely then he'll want to retain the squad and build. The sale of both Lallana & Shaw don't make sense for different reasons. £20m for Lallana would give us £15m which is nothing for such a major talent in today's market. I think like Spurs have found with Bale, that Lallana is irreplaceable and unless he tries to force a move (which I think would be unlike Adam) then he needs to stay. Shaw is better now than Bale was at 18 and he supposedly cost £85m. Why would we want to sell him now for £27m when we could have him for another few years and he would likely to be worth even more. Osvaldo, Guly & Jos are the only ones we should consider letting go.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Steady on RomseySaint that's far too level headed for this time of the season. But it is certainly one settled way of looking at it. What did Krueger say..? We'll do what's best for Southampton..? This is what's best for Southampton. BTW, Guly and Jos are on their way out. Hence the recent Beefy's Corners with their names attached [our little tribute].

Just copy and paste this to every negative transfer rumour until next season.....

with fox and hooiveld gone i hope there's enough characters left in the dressing room. we've got a lot of modest clean cut lads in the squad.

as out of his depth as he was it's impossible not to like jos.

I don't want to lose any of our players or our manager, and I hate the way that the big clubs and the media treat us like an all-you-can-eat buffet. I'm also annoyed that despite Hodgson saying that he didn't want any transfer specualtion during the World Cup, the big clubs have completely ignored him and put in bids for our players anyhow.

Losing Poch would be a blow, although I suspect that Reed has a back-up plan, and whoever comes in has got the base of a good team. Personally I think that Poch would be making a mistake going to Spurs, and feel a little sorry for Sherwood, who did a pretty good job, given the circumstances.

If we lost Shaw, we'd need a left back, as we've let Fox go. (Yes, I know Fox wasn't a fan favourite, but he was still a left back). Could Chambers shift to the left and/or is Targett up to standard? If not, we'll we need to get a new LB in during the break.

Losing Lallana would probably be the worst blow, as creative midfielders aren't exactly ten-a-penny, and I think we'd struggle to score. (This is something of a concern anyway - we don't score enough from midfield considering our domination of possession.) Still, it might be a good opportunity for JWP to make his mark on the team.

Another downside of all this speculation is that raises our costs in the transfer market. If we get £30m (plus 25% sell-on rights for Shaw), other clubs are going to want a share of the pie when we buy from them.

Now I do not believe that any* (fingers crossed, legs crossed, arms crossed, toes crossed etc etc) of this will happen but let's just say that our worst fears are realised and:

Poch toddles off to Spurs
Shaw goes to Chelsea/Man Utd/Man City for >£30M
Lallana goes to Liverpool for >£20M
Schneiderlin goes to Arsenal for >£15M
Chambers goes to Arsenal for >£10M
KL states that funds from player sales are to be reinvested into the playing staff

We're left with a squad that's torn to pieces and no manager but you've got £75M plus the £30M that was already earmarked for this year (a guess I know but what isn't on here at the moment) so what do you do? Who do you trust with the kitty and who should they spend it on to stop us all from having early coronaries?

* well maybe Lallana off to a top four outfit isn't totally unrealistic

But team morale will be too badly damaged, these guys are very close

I believe Corkie is one of the "characters" in the dressing room too.

I don't want to think about really, it will be the first low since we went into admin. We got something good going for us and to lose a lot of it in the summer will be bad. I worry for next season if we do, a relegation battle could be upon us.

Lets hope this doesn't happen.

If;

Poch goes to Spurs; I'd put a bet on him being sacked before Christmas. In fact I'll probably put that bet on whichever poor doomed sod gets the Spurs job.

Shaw goes for £30 mill +; £30 mill? for a left back? Really? Ok then.

Adam goes to Liverpool for £20 mill; This is the worst case option of the lot, everyone loses. He's worth far more than that, and he's gone to a team who'll never win the league (they had their chance and blew it imo).

If those other things happen, I'll run naked round St Marys with a lighted newspaper stuffed up my arse, shouting "play up p*mpey".

Tell us the numbers for next weeks lottery since you obviously have a crystal ball.

We missed it by 2 pts this season. We need the same as this season plus 1 more win. We'll have a better team next season than this season as long as Suarez stays true to his word and the young players have an extra years experience and will all be all better plays for it.

There is no logical reason as to why we won't be at least involved in the title shake up again next season. We're already ready 3rd favourites with the bookies so they obviously think we have a good chance. A better chance than Arsenal according to them.

THis wishful thinking is fanciful from our clubs rivals. Clutching at straws that somehow, someway, we manage to lose the second best Manager in the country, all our young England starters and Suarez too despite him saying he's staying (plus our record with him out the team but with Sturridge is just as good as it is with him playing - it don't make as much difference as everyones thinks, no, hopes).

When you look at the facts objectively there is FAR much more reason to suspect LFC being up there again next season than to suggest we somehow over a few weeks are going to suddenly forget how to play football, all our players legs fall off and we drop out the top 4. It just isn't going to happen regardless of how much people beg, hope and plead that it will. Liverpool are back now to where we were from 2002-2010.

Yes, like most supporters of teams the size of Southampton, Swansea etc you are very naive.

Go and ask Swansea supporters what they were pleading in the run up tv his move to Liverpool that was NEVER going to happen, especially at just £1m which was a joke for their tallisman, hero player who had been at the club since he was born or something similar.

Are you sure Suarez is staying?

I only think you'll have him for one more season as Madrid cannot risk FFP ramifications after the buy of Bale last summer.

I don't think the size of a team has a direct correlation to a person's naivety. Judging by some of this, it may have a direct correlation to the size of the pr**ks....

Well done for tarring the vast majority of football supporters with the same brush. The rest of your post makes absolutely no sense whatsoever (as if the first part did). This is a hypothetical and a bit tongue-in-cheek thread about "what if all the gossip columns are correct and the heart of our team is ripped out". It is not a rant at Liverpool so cool your jets eh?
