Gomarchingin, why do you have to descend into this "self serving" nonsense? Just because he doesn't agree with you, try and keep the discussion sensible at least. It makes for a good debate.
No Mr Nice , I care for the game and it would appear you put your entertainment above the future of our National game I am very happy that the game has opened up to all but not at the cost of the origins of this game and at their expense , I look back not through rose tinted glasses (awful toliets, over zealous policy, fighting) but through a sense of social history , thats what football is . I would love safe standing , I would love a provision of at least 60% British per team fielded , I would love a too see a guaranteed 3 under 21 players in the side , I would love to see the maximum wage , I would love to see a maximum ticketing price , I would love to see home and away tickets the same price etc etc
I probably set the age to high, but when new borns or young children sit next to you crying all game it's annoying.
Because he is happy to see foreigners play when they affect the long term objectives of us being any good for a short term gain , the clubs do it as well , self serving short termism , its not an insult its a reality .
What favours Southampton FC is for Cortese to buy all the quality players he has , thats short termism will work for a while , do you want that ?
And Cortese's publicly stated plan is that eventually 50% of the first team will have come from the Academy. How is that short termism?
Occasionally it is, yeh. I can think of three occasions off the top of my head; The 4-0 defeat of Spurs in the FA Cup in 2003, the last home game of 2010/11 vs Walsall, and 2011/12 vs Coventry. The Dell, while I have many fond memories of the place, outlived it's purpose by at least a decade. I can't imagine anyone seriously wanting to turn the clock back and return to that delapidated shack.
At the moment I would go for short termism. SFC have long term plans, but we have to remain in the PL for that to come to fruition. If you want oak trees, you not only need acorns, you need somewhere to plant them.
I completely agree , we failed to plant enough thats the problem , thats not short termism or playing the long game , its being tight and gambling , thats what that is but thats another point I think I have gone over .
In five years everyone will wonder how the Southampton academy is producing so many brilliant players and everyone else is only getting one first teamer every few years. Seriously it's gonna be that good.
It already is that good, if you think of Walcott, Bale, Chamberlain, Lallana and Ward-Prowse in recent years.
We have to keep them for it to have any worth , no point if we have money , in the Premiership and we continue to sell our best players .
That's the challenge. To keep the best graduates of the academy, we have to firstly remain in the Premiership, and secondly progress within it. Foreign signings like Ramirez, Yoshida, and Mayuka can help us do that.
If you know my posts you will of read I have said that all along , at any cost we have to stay up , we have not bought enough quality at all , at the moment we will go down with our current defence , too many foreign signings are poor though for the long term future of our game , the clubs will or should be kept to an agreement but whether they would do that is another thing .
now I am peeing myself. Have you not accused people 5 minutes ago of short termism? This is short termism. Would it be disaterous if we went down and came back up again?
