So. Vice captain?

Yesterday our very loyal vice captain retired from football. This leaves us with out a specific vice captain.

Who would you like to take up the role? Or do you think some one should be chosen for each individual game with out Gerrard?

For me, despite the bite, feel Suarez is the man. He is a world class player who always plays with incredible passion. He is vocal and inspiring. He will also have anger management, which will help him out more. He really loves the club to.

I also think a third captain should be chosen. For this I choose Daniel Agger. He has been at the club for a long time as a major part of the team, he captains his country, leads by example and loves the club.

I think Agger/Lucas/Suarez would be good options.

Agger because is central to our defence and he can see eveything ahead of him.

Same reason applies to Lucas.

Suarez because of his passion and sheer desire to win - if I were lucky to play alongside him, seeing that kind of character fight for every ball would motivate me. But captaincy could take that fire out of his belly.

Pepe is ideal. Lucas is not a man for that type of role, he is too quiet..... agger is ok but he'd not a colossus to inspire people.

suarez should never ever be considered.

Reina's not enough of a constant for me, always so many rumours regarding how he's unhappy may move etc. Lucas is a stalwart player and crucial to our team, Also the position he plays makes ideal location to be captain. Can see him with us for quite a while

would it not be the ideal way for reina and the club to signal those rumours are bull? If privately he was asked by rodgers and eagerly accepted then wouldn't that be great.

Can anyone tell me who had thier players on the pitch yesterday... lucas and pepe and carra... these are the guys you want... again lucas might be long term but he's not the vocal leader nor is he the inspiration type. He's a good honest work horse in the engine room.

Imo, Suarez would be a PR disaster- the rags would love it.
Earlier in the season I said Agger, but I'm a bit disappointed with him, he's good with the ball at his feet but nowhere near dominant or aggressive enough in the air for me.
Lucas too quiet, I agree.
Reina has all the necessary leadership qualities and seems to be getting back on form so he'd be my choice for now. Of course there are rumours about him leaving, but they resurface every five minutes so we'll have to see. As mito says, perhaps offering him the job and the responsibility will go a long way to ensuring he stays.

Good question. Personally I'd go for Agger or Pepe although I'd have no problem if Lucas got it. Suarez shouldn't be considered (yet) as we can't get a full bloody season out of him. His workrate and passion is all well and good but others have that too and are time served...and they don't spend a quarter of each season suspended either.

Cutting it short: Pepe, Lucas and Agger are excellent candidates but Suarez has the passion, determination, ability and mouth for the job.

Sorry, but I've always believed that the captain & VC should always be an outfield player and also not a striker.

Which for me rules out Reina/Suarez

I agree about strikers not being captain but Suarez isn't a Fowler or Shearer type who hardly leaves the opposition box. Our front four interchange constantly and I don't even see Suarez being the main front man that often next season.

Personally, I think the armband is just a tag for lifting trophies and going in for the coin toss. Armband or not, we should have leaders on the pitch anyway, it certainly shouldn't be left to one individual because they have a bit of material on their arm! Gerrard's wore the armband for years but our main and true leader's just retired!

Daniel Agger for me - not keen on goalkeepers being captain.

Although Agger hasn't had the best season by his standards he has acknowledged that he hasn't been good enough at times which is a good trait.

I don't agree that the captain is for picking up trophies and tossing a coin.

They should be all about the manager's voice o nthe field of play, being the glue in the dressing room holding things together. the guy who punches anyone carrying pig's heads round!

simply put i was aghast when hyppia lost the captaincy and have always wondered seriously if gerrard lead the team.

however looking at terry at chelsea.... who the F wants a player like that either.

All in all i think Pepe reina is a great guy for the team, agger spat out teeth and carried on, i simply think there's not too many more at the club.

The player list is more in liking to the response I lost (#12).

My point was that we don't want just one captain on the field, we want three or four. Hell, we should eleven if we can! I understand you're point about manager's voice etc but the manager talks to all the players throughout the week, he should be telling them him self what he wants!

I agree about Gerrard. He was always a leader by example rather than a shouter/organiser, hence me saying Carragher was always the true leader on the pitch

He led by example and did that well so I think it was the right thing to do at that time, it may be the right thing for him to do in the next couple of seasons and let someone take over that mantle and be there like Carra as a No. 2
