Hopefully tomorrow all the players will be out to prove themselves, they should be anyway because with the way we're playing they're not going to be gifted a start because someone else is doing ****.
Agreed. 2 games with Chelsea in 1966, Stoke City in 1971, West Ham in 1973 and Liverpool in 1989 True Classic FA Cup games and massive crowds. No reason to think a later round cannot bring more of the same. Try telling teams like MANSFIELD v. Liverpool, CHELTENHAM v. Everton and even little HASTINGS UTD who go up to Middlesboro that the FA Cup has lost its magic. It has not. Its just the way the FA run it and the silly delay for replays. Try telling the 2 clubs that finally make it to Wembley for the Final that it has no magic. So do I. Beat Orient and then say another home draw with one of the Sheffields would bring in a big-ish crowd and then a round 5 game with a big club. Yes it would mean postponing 2 home championship games but so what ? It would give the main team rest and the squad players game time. Who would not get worked up over a round 5 game with one of the Manchester clubs or Arsenal again ? Maybe even a reply. The cup is what the draw and fans make it to be.
Ye just got my tickets, big queue. Missed my seat gotta sit in the row in front. I'll take the blame if we lose!! I asked how come the queues, lot been sold mate etc, total ****ing apathy." Couldn't really say....."
£10 a ticket for adult season card holders is a bargain. I wonder how many new season card holders we now have since Santa paid us a visit recently ? The concession prices are also very fair. I would guess that a gate of 10,000+ would be good for Orient.
It's the fact that the semi final is at Wembley, it's ****ing **** ruins the whole point of the final being at Wembley.
Should have one semi at The Millenium and the other at Hampden. I imagine the other FAs wouldn't let it though.
and how utterly ****ing annoying has it been over the last 10 years to hear supporters of other teams using irritating phrases like "we should be beating the likes of hull"? let's just step back a yard and try again. shall we? "we need to be beating any opposition that's below us in the league, especially teams from lower divisions". there, much less patronising and annoying. as for the question: it's a cup game. i'll start caring again when it looks like the club has started caring again.
in fact, why bother playing at all? just have a toss of the coin or create a computer model that predicts the results. replays add another dimension that isn't there in league games or other competitions. a couple of my favourite memories are the games against Chelsea in 65/66, 8-4 against Whitby, the replays against Blyth Spartans in the early 80s. Also went to see Blyth vs Wrexham in a 5th round replay at St James' park while I was at Uni up there. Close to 50,000 in the ground which was more than the barcodes got for any of their league games that year.
Have both semi finals at The Millenium over one weekend. Cardiiff would love that to happen i would guess.
i'm with you. replays got limited because the biggest of the big clubs got bored with them. for little clubs, that was vital revenue, getting a top table team back to their back of beyond, shed for a stand ground. generated enthusiasm, kept them going for another year, that income. who that's old enough can forget teams like hereford and wimbledon in the 70s getting elected to the league on the back of fa cup exploits? leatherhead, anyone? exeter getting a 0-0 with man utd? bournemouth and wrexham putting out arsenal and man utd? sutton utd beating coventry? and who was that struggling second division club in 1921 that stuffed champions-elect burnley 3-0 to dump them out of the fa cup during their record 30-game unbeaten league run?
Replays got to one as a few ties ran to 3 ,4 5 and even 6 replays over the years. That had to stop. I am happy with 30 mins extra time and a penalty shoot out if needed. That adds to the drama. Anyone remember Fulham v. Arsenal (i think) as it took 7bn games to get a winner and the next round was delayed. Filbert Street-Leicester was always one ground used for such replays. Hull City and Fulham also went 4 games one year. It had to end and thankfully it has done.
The FA Cup is still worth winning. Which we haven't managed to do yet. Lose tomorrow and the local media will be all over us like a rash. As will all the whingers, doubters, hangers-on of other clubs, jealous envious eggchasers and anyone else with a grudge. Win tomorrow and win well and lets hear our name in the 4th rd draw. Besides that the club are making a splendid offer of £10 a ticket, half price for kids and so on and that deserves some backing. I cannot believe any true City fan chooses not to go tomorrow. Ask yourselves would you go if we make the final?
I'd rather reach the FA Cup final (even if we lost) than get promoted. Unfortunately the fans, the players, the management and the owners and investors don't feel the same way.
tv has been a huge change. go back before 1960 and cup games were the only way most people got to see the star players of their era. now the star players are live on television every other night.
i have no problem with a bit of squad rotation, but id love us to give each round 100% .. bit of luck with the draw and you never know , love to see City in a cup final one day..
They have extended the £10 a ticket until 12:00 tomorrow and i haven't really took much notice of Orient until 10 mins ago and did not realise they have won 9 out of the last 11 so with many of our reserves playing it will be an hard game
I always find watching the cup draw in anticipation of whom we might get more exciting than the actual match itself, (though that's probably because we always get crap draws). I'd pick promotion first any day but it really would be nice if one day we could actually reach a cup final.
Well said. But Sadly as its only Orient and just after the festive season and all those other matches this was never going to be a good crowd. But you just never know. Even using our squad players Hull City will be far to good for Orient. We have many with points to prove for a start.
