From what I have read the buy out clause meant that LFC had to "consider" the bid that's all , not to actually force them to sell him.
But either way, it was clear that Arsenal knew of the 'clause' which is supposed to be confidential. If Arsenal were to follow this up, they would then have to explain how they knew which could have got ugly for both clubs, Suarez and his agent?
I wouldnt go round admitting that contracts mean **** all to me tbh.... Probably not the smartest thing someones ever done. LFC Owner - Hello Player A, sign a contract with us, you can have this much money and if this offer comes in you can leave. Player A - Oh....... ok....... but didnt you say contracts mean nothing? LFC Owner - Yes, they dont mean anything Player A - Im joining someone else Liverpool - he was **** anyway...
I still don't know the exact contents of the contract. However... as glad as I am that Suarez stayed... I'm not overly impressed if we resorted to breaking a contract to do it. We got away with it... but I'm a little disappointed to hear the truth.
Could do without a player whose first thought of signing a contract is how can I get out of this contract - so **** 'em.
JWH's stance only s**ts over the 'buyout clause' aspect of a contract. Which is good for the game, because normally an asset doesn't get to determine its own market value ahead of time.
True but players sometimes take risks which is why they ask for such clauses. Works both way, can expect a player to be loyal if a club is deciding on wh9ich clauses to uphold and which to disregard.
@FreeSuarez1: @thisisanfield You wont me laughing when we sue you and take Suarez for free @FreeSuarez1: My dad is a lawyer and thinks because Liverpool has breached Suarez' contract he can legally switch to Arsenal for FREE. #FreeSuarez.
Arsenal fan sets up petition to demand Liverpool release Luis Suarez and PAY Gunners £4.5m http://metro.co.uk/2014/03/03/arsen...ase-luis-suarez-and-pay-gunners-4-5m-4394076/ An angry Arsenal fan has set up a petition to ‘free’ Luis Suarez from Liverpool, following John W. Henry’s comments regarding the striker’s failed summer transfer. The Gunners’ infamous £40million plus £1 offer was rebuffed by the Reds, who claimed Suarez had no such release clause in his contract – contrary to what the North Londoners believed. However, Liverpool’s American owner appeared to contradict that fact over the weekend, leading to one Gooner demanding that the Reds release Suarez from his current contract, apologise to Arsenal football club and hand over £4.5m as compensation. After being besieged on Twitter by irate Liverpool fans, the @FreeSuarez1 account, who set-up the petition tweeted: ‘My dad is a lawyer and thinks because Liverpool has breached Suarez’ contract he can legally switch to Arsenal for FREE.’
Not that I am suggesting this but... What if contracts could not last longer than one season. No trading of players between seasons? Summer would be one chaotic mess. Besides that though... better or worse than what we have now? Or is net result the same? It would certainly shift power from clubs to players.
I'm not sure how the American sports work to be honest... but I'm not talking about players being traded at all. I know Americans have draft picks... don't agree with that. I thought American system was the opposite. Players had no choice where they went. Teams got to pick players one at a time and player had to go there. What I am suggesting is... and I'm not even suggesting it... just throwing out an idea... Is that at end of the season if a player no longer wishes to play for a club they are free to find a new one. (Perhaps must give 6 weeks notice before season end if they are leaving). Then player can go wherever they like (assuming club wants them). No trades... no draft picks. No long term contracts. I don't think I am suggesting the American system... although if I am... its not from being here... just trying to think outside the box.
