Wasn't Shelvey's elbow but his palm (same body part Sterling used) that made contact - what got Shelvey the ban was Can going down like he'd been hit with a sledgehammer! We used to have a player like that (remember Chico) but got rid of him - thank God, and Monk has made it clear that he won't stand for play acting!

Not excusing Shelvey - think the ban was deserved but just wonder what would have happened if Fernandez reacted like Can did?

However, think this is all covering up the fact that we were beaten fairly and squarely by a better team on the day.

Only one person could have been badly injured on the day, and that was from Shelvey .It reminds me a bit of Carroll elbow on Chico.Carroll elbow could have severly injured Chico if the bad intention was aimed better .But Carroll couldnt look because he was pretending no one was there...like Shelvey.

Well done for eventually replying - had almost forgotten this post but congratulations for being so alert! All I was saying was that Can looked like he had been shot in the face, whereas Fernandez just laughed at Raheem's slap and stayed on his feet! Forgive me because my sport as a kid was rugby and I got punched in the face all the time - if I had reacted like Can I would have lost any credibility that I had! Sport, whatever it is, is a mans game - if you aint got the balls for it then **** off and play marbles instead! Sick to death of little nancy boy faux men of which I count Can as one! If you don't like it then stick to knitting! I remember when nancyball used to be played by men - Jimmy Case and the like must be cringing with embarrassment! Apart from that - nice belated reply, I am well and truly put in my place! ;)

Well that's probably because Can had been elbowed hard... where as Fernandez got a little slap/push in the face with an open palm. Both were red cards, but to moan that Can went down for it is pathetic <doh>

Why? Can elbowed hard - really?!!! Get a life, have suffered worse elbows in the January sales! I really worry about our footballers if they are so fragile - Can acted as if he was moments from death!! Not excusing Shelvey at all, as you say both he and Sterling should have been sent off, but am getting so pissed off at the fragility of so called elite sportsmen! Can squealed like a 6 year old girl who's pigtails had been given a little tug! Thought you Scousers were made of sterner stuff!

Haha - elbowed hard - bless his little cotton socks - are you friggin' real?!! Remember when football was a contact sport? You lot were quite good at it! Challenges meant that both players could compete for the ball, tackles were allowed, and if an opposition player 'bumped' into an opponent they would actually stay on their feet!! Think Emre Can should stick to knitting - as long as no one causes him to drop a stitch! Hate to think of the psychological and physical torment that would cause him! ;) Bloody lightweights!

Players have never been allowed to sneek a sly elbow on the opposition, you must be getting mixed up with Rugby and football boyo or perhaps you're a fan of WWF.

Aah the small club chestnut! Wondered how long before that one was trotted out. And couldn't possibly get rugby and football mixed up Page Moss - would be like mixing up Charles Bronson and Lionel Blair! ;) Is Can gonna wear his tutu next game? ;)
