We have a lot of players that still aren't good enough for the PL. I think IF we stay up they'll be a massive overhaul. For me, I don't think Davies, Elmo, Maloney, Diomande etc are good enough and I'd be half tempted to get rid of Dawson too
Maloney is fine off the bench for 30 minutes, has the creativity to take advantage of tiring opposition despite his age.
He got an assist against Manchester City. He's scored this season as well. I think he offers more than a fair few players. Wasn't the issue in 2015/16 that we turned over the squad too quickly? Not sure I'd be keen to repeat the mistake. Sadly I think Meyler, Diomande, McGregor, Bruce (obviously) and Weir will be the ones we will actively look to sell (or in Bruce's case release). Maguire will likely be sold, potentially Robertson as well. Consider that on top of that all of our loanees are gone (except Niasse and potentially Elabdellaoui), we shouldn't be looking to sell any others.
He's done well in patches. I just think we can get better. He's not a PL player. Ideally I would like another good winger We still have one of the poorest squads in the league, whereas, in 15/16 I don't think we did. The problem is that the wrong players were brought in with the wrong attitude. I don't think Silva would make that mistake. Throughout his career he's always bought players with something to prove, and it's really paid off. We've seen the results clearly. Look at Ranocchia, there were articles saying how crap he is and that he mistakes at least 1 mistake a game. I can't think of a mistake he's made for us, he's been a different class. I'm not so sure that Maguire and Robertson will go. IF Marco stays, I think we look like quite an exciting proposition. Robertson certainly won't go to Burnley, and Maguire will know that he's going to be playing every week, and on the verge on an England call up. This summer, if we stay up we must look to add quality and not merely numbers like last summer.
to answer the question........ if he were to stay, he will bring in a striker. I can see him wanting to win the league next season. then I can see him pissing off and leaving us, to manage a club in Europe.
The real issue, that the thread title dodges, is will we retain Silva? To beat relegation and then lose Silva would be a huge downer. It certainly isn't too early to be concerned about that.
