Masters now on. Tony Knowles with a hair band on. Some canny throw back players involved so worth a watch here and there. Apparently you have to be over 40 to qualify - Ronnie is 46.

Aye if everyone in the world was forced to play one frame of snooker it'd be a lot more popular than it is, people probably watch it and think it's boring without appreciating how bloody difficult it is and how easy they make it look.

You can enjoy something like a nice but basic positional shot more if you know how hard it is to pot a straight medium distance red.

Seen a bit of the new mixed doubles tournament, wasn't great viewing but I think it's a good idea. I'd only heard of one female player before it whereas now I know four and it seems a solid way to grow the women's game.

I can’t work out the “men v women” in snooker, darts and other sports which basically don’t rely on physical fitness and strength. How come there are no professional women anywhere near the level of the men in those sports?

I was quite good at pool but couldn't get away with snooker. I found it a totally different game, like suddenly trying to hit a cricket ball with a chop stick. How a person could pot a ball whilst hitting the white away from centre in order to position the white for the next shot. Professional snooker players are wizards.

I don't know mate it's an interesting question, the best I can do is that a lot of blokes start off playing those games at the pub and some realise they've got a talent for it that way. Maybe women aren't as into it, I'd say pretty much all the times I've played pool with women it's been virtually the first time they've tried it.

I used to be in a pool team with a lass who was absolutely superb at pool. Couldn’t play snooker (bit like me now!!!) but you’re right, you don’t see many lasers playing the game at 18/19 like I did

Never known what to think of Ding. Has the demeanour around the table of a mildly malfunctioning robot with his twitchy eyes, I know how that feels I get the same thing when I'm stressed. Seems a nice enough bloke though when the pressure's off. Ronnie seems to love him.

This Si lad is one to watch, looks a talent. Attacking player but seems to know when to rein it in.

I've got the Allen/Bingham game on. It's not very good....very scrappy.
But on the upside, Desislava is refereeing.

Didn't see the end of it but Si goes through after beating Murphy 10-9.

Interestingly he was the player that Murphy whinged about being beaten by a couple of years ago: "Murphy made headlines as he hit out at what he saw as an unfair defeat to "someone who shouldn't even be in the building", adding that Si played like "a man who does not have a care in the world" thanks to his amateur status."

Well, now he's been beaten by him as an amateur and also as a newly minted professional.

Saw the last frame and to be fair it was a classic. Could have gone either way.
