With his acerbic and irreverent wit, Smug normally keeps the idiots away much more effectively than having to temper his contribution that is why I wouldn’t want him as a Moderator. I am not one for mob mentality but I am uncomfortable that Smug, Funk, MrRaw, Safc83 and WMS (apologies if I have omitted anyone) were unsupported in the face of a concerted, puerile personal attack by people whose only aim was to disrupt our board. I would never like to see this board completely sanitised, but racist, homophobic or threatening posts are not acceptable and should initially be challenged then if they continue, deleted with the culprit banned. Not 606 is financed by advertising revenue and without the support of the big search engines that funding would dry up, so it is essential that posts do not breach their guidelines. There are many brilliant posters on here and Smug is/was one of them, we should have a determined effort to persuade him to return to the fold and at the same time be less tolerant of the idiots who disrupt threads with hate campaigns and/or post vile, personal comments. This is a football forum ffs, anyone who wants to participate in the juvenile humour of GC should use that forum and leave us old fogies to our pipe and slippers.

By the way, for anybody questioning Comm's input to this board, whilst they're not always about football they're still good threads that bond this board like no other. I agree with that Monysoptician. Tbh, I had no problem with Comm and Smug having the gloves on, but when it came to the gc lot spouting their bile, it became pathetic. I was shocked with the lack of back up from the average sunderland fan though. There was only Whitey and Bri fighting his corner.
To be fair, you never really know whether to back Smug or not, he's not somebody who screams 'help me' when he's batting off the wums. He hasn't left because nobody supported him, although I do think a pack mentality would have had a better effect, however it's not up to any individual to determine how a group behaves. He left because he respects the board's members too much, and the fact that this board has taken years to establish and develop, for it to just be **** all over because a group of posters are targeting him.

I may be getting the wrong end of the stick here but did Smug not go onto GC deliberatly winding them up to "set a trap" or something? - don't get me wrong I like Smug he's a top poster and likes a laugh but I went onto GC a couple of times and realised that they take it too far(thats up to them btw) so I stay away. Its the same as the OT posts you don't have to open them if you don't want to

I would have backed anyone in a situation like that. I can't stand a "mob mentality". Been called worse than ****e off some black and whites though.
