No manager should be too polite to tell an employee they dont have a future.

He effectively did. Pardew is right, Smith has been around the block enough to know that he is no longer good enough for the premier league.

Smith is either in denial or is mercenary enough to continue to try and sell the lie that he can still do a job at that level. It is not a coincidence that he has broken his silence during the first week of the last transfer window remaining within his current contract. He wants to extend his payday but didn't make this appeal earlier because he knows he will have to take a paycut and therefore has gambled at getting something during this final window.

Perhaps Pardew has become accustomed to the high standards of tea that Alan delivers and is concerned that any additional workload could be detrimental to the overall quality of his cuppas.

would be interested in moving to a club like Queens Park Rangers

'give them a push forward' my arse he mentions QPR as they are a club that's stupid enough and rich enough to pay his high wages funny how he didn't say someone like Wigan.
As the line from the classic disco song i will survive says:emoticon-0159-music Go on now go walk out the door just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore :emoticon-0159-music

The sooner he goes the better, the team has evolved past his capabilities. He'd still be a good Championship player, and he'll have earned so much from us that he'll be able to take the pay cut.

I'd have gone with "Your hair is **** and you haven't played a good top flight game of football in nearly a decade. Alan."

"I just want to play-".

Oh good, he's still got some integrity...

"-for a club 'like QPR' [for lots of money]"

faksake

If he wants to salvage his reputation I think he should openly request a loan transfer to Darlington (we've been sending a few of our reserves to that level recently), accepting 'only' £10kpw from Newcastle for the duration and volunteering the rest. If he helps keep them up (he'd be decent at that level) he can return with his head held high, he'd have accomplished something, he'd be considered a legend at Darlo and he'd have done enough to show Championship/League One clubs he can still play so he can get a move at the end of the season.

I can't see him breaking into QPR's first team and if he can then he needs help.

Alan Smith said:
"Whenever I've knocked on the boss' door to ask why I'm not playing he says, 'I think you understand football enough to know why'."

<laugh> Pardew telling it like it is.
