I agree. In fairness, it was openly stated that one of Slutsky's strengths is his proven ability to assess players at his disposal and figure out the best position, formation and tactics to suit the team. So this I guess is the situation with Irvine, and most likely some others. A talented player, crucially available on the cheap, so sign him up then figure it out. But even then, there's no getting away from the facts that the summer has been another shambles, punctuated with continuing lies and gaffs from Ehab, and that the squad still lacks sufficient depth, balance, quality and experience. I was going to say that IF they all stay, and a bit of sensible strengthening happens, then we might reap rewards next season ... but that logic is flawed as a key part of the strategy is utilising loans, which means rebuilding. And of course we will have 3 more relegated PL clubs, most likely with even more money at their disposal. I fear it's over. At least we experienced it.
