Yes that is one positive. Anyone can still qualify from group F, three teams can still win it. None have the luxury of resting players and rotating the squad, and whoever we face on Monday will be playing their fourth game in quick succession, where as we hve a full week off to nurse any cuts and bruises, develop better understanding, work on set pieces and prepare. Another positive is should we succeed we would likely face France then Germany rather than Belgium then Spain on the route to the final. The first two teams who, in my opinion, are more beatable than the latter two. The biggest ****ing negative is we now play Monday night instead of Saturday evening, so no going out on the piss all day and having a riot in town. Thanks stultus strix cunnus.
Err... We lost top spot last night. Yesterday morning we were top of the group, last night we were second.
Home Team Slovakia Away Team England Possession Home 39% Away 61% Shots Home 4 Away 29 Shots on Target Home 2 Away 5 Corners Home 0 Away 11 Fouls Home 7 Away 12 Score 0 - 0 It was goals we missed, not players. Six substitutions are being made out to be far worse than they were. (Did anyone defend them or has Quill made that one up?) I don't like messing with a settled defence, but we kept a clean sheet for the first time in the tournament; Clyne was decent, Bertrand simply argued the case for Rose. Wiltshire started okay and faded badly after 20 minutes; surely this is seen in training? The rest were decent, but nothing great, but we knew that, didn't we? Rooney is the sort of striker we needed at them last night, not Vardy. We entered the tournament knowing (allegedly) that we have a wobbly defence but the strongest forward line we have had for decades. The defence did their job, the attack didn't. They (Slovakia) defended and hoped for a counter opportunity that never really came - we fumbled ourselves to danger just the once. We decided to play possession football at a pathetically weak pace that simply allowed them to block. We didn't score but we did more than enough to score; that needs to change. The over-the-top criticism on here is simply that, over-the-top. If Quill is still moist this morning it could be a long day. Can't believe the jock smack-head had so much to say for himself; are we still in the tournament? Well done to Wales, good luck to the Irish; there are some big games coming for us all - for everyone except the ****ing Jock twat with too much to say for himself.
I certainly didnt read anyone defending 6 changes. And 2 of those changes everyone had been crying out for anyway, including Quill himself. Also I dont get this idea that not making any changes wouldve guaranteed we win. Where does that come from?
We are through to the next round and I have never understood all of this handwringing about who we are to play next. It's the same at World Cups about what group were going to be in, 'I hope we avoid x team or y team' it shouldn't really matter who we play if we want to win the tournament. Unless of course we should be horrified at the thought of playing Germany, France, Italy instead of the likes of Albania. Our players play in the best league in the World, right? Ironically like many of the players in this tournament whom many think we should now avoid, are we now to quiver at the thought of facing Ronaldo now than at the later stages? Long live England 1966, can we clone them?
The coverage has been a bit over the top considering we've gone through, which is more than we did in the World Cup. In 2012 we finished top then drew Italy and went out! England won't win the Euro's and probably won't make the Quarters as too many of our top players don't seem to have their mojo. I'll try and enjoy the round of 16 by hoping for the best while expecting the worst. LOL
We haven't lost a game and we've outplayed everyone. In the knockouts teams will have to beat us and no one has looked like doing that so far. Playing for a draw only works in the groups so the knockout will obviously be different. It's very harsh to say our players haven't got their mojo. Performances so far have been very good.
Yes I agree with that and maybe it is harsh but I think we could/should have scored a lot more goals than we have so far. We dominated both Russia and Slovakia but didn't win. In knockout football you have to win or face pens. Anyway I personally find it best not to start to believe or the wheels fall off. I started to believe during Italia '90 then.....I really started to believe during Euro '96 then....I started to believe City would win the Championship this season then..... *Note I don't really think my mood has a direct influence on football matches.
I agree but performances mean little if anything at all. If we'd played the same game last night but it was at the knockout stage, there's a 50/50 chance we'd be out today. When you get chances at tournament football you have to take them and I'm not sure Roy can be criticised for that. We're creating chances and there isnt a striker that he should have used that he hasnt.
I'm not sure about that, I'd definitely have brought Rashford on ahead of Kane last night, we weren't creating enough and Kane's just a finisher, he's not going to create anything.
But he has used Rashford, that's what i meant. it's not like someone has been sat on the bench or at home who we're crying out for.
With a better bit of closing down in the Russia game and a less balanced Skirtl last night we'd have finished the group with nine points and be watching the hype ramp up. As it is, we're through. Any of our next opponents look beatable and you take it from there. Two points: If we don't start taking our chances we'll struggle to progress much further (obviously). No team has attacked us yet and consequently our defence has not been put under much pressure. How they hold up when this inevitably happens will be crucial. (Obviously).
