Must have been an old book. Kingston upon Hull has had city status since 1897, and Leicester regained city status in 1919 <whistle>

No.1 in the 2003 list, but didn't make the top ten in 2004.

In fact, the author of the books said this in 2006....

We plotted a Crap Map, each town denoted by a small brown pin. The map was filthy with grievances and all the various forms of misery the towns had inflicted - from inner-city poverty to self-satisfied middle England, from the dull and lifeless to the ugly and depressing, from concrete monstrosities to phoney heritage centres.
I knew, as did Dan, that we were onto something. It was obvious from how long we spent laughing at all the entries. Clearly, we had hit the right nerve. However, it was not until one Finlay Coutts-Briton wrote in about the much-maligned city of Hull that things really hotted up. "Hull smells of death," he said, before suggesting that "on Judgment Day the town should be leased out to Satan, to provide housing for the damned".

The eagle-eyed reporters on the Hull Daily Mail spotted the piece and ran a front-page article inviting Coutts-Briton (or "posho" as they called him) to have a look round the town for himself.

Gallantly, he went up there, and actually admitted that, yes, the town was far better than he remembered. He even decided that he quite liked it.

No, when I'm presented with facts, I tend to check them. If, as in your case they've been binned as bollocks by the people that produced them as bollocks, i think it's fair to view the person hiding behind them as an idiot. <ok>

Humberside Police's main area of operation isn't Hull, the force covers a vast area of which the City is a very small percentage. At least you recognise it was just another of your 'clutching at straws' **** ups. <ok>

The boundaries of Hull are different in respect to those of Nottingham, your comment that Mansfield was included confirms that.

So as your tables have been shown to be bollocks in the first place, the relative change is equally bollocks. <ok>

So just to clarify, yes I think you're thick. <ok>

    Hope that helps.

Just to confirm how farcical those nonsense books are, the 2004 edition had Windsor in second place, one of the most affluent cities in Britain, with the highest property prices of any area outside of London. The list also included Edinburgh, Bath, Oxford, Brighton and Stratford-upon-Avon, though at least they put Luton top.

You'll be disappointed to hear that they didn't make the top ten on either occasion, but I don't know if they were somewhere down the list, as they're a complete crock of ****, I don't actually have a copy.

Well that just proves conclusively that the list is, indeed, a load of ****e.

There's the evidence to back what I've said, now you show evidence that these are false or inaccurate. <ok>

Why would I need to hide behind anything? I've told you that the above stories have tainted Hull's image in the eyes of others around the country. Whether they are fair or not, they have created lasting damage that will take a long time, more than seven years, to be removed from the public subconsciousness.

So Humberside Police, based in Kingston upon Hull, doesn't have it's highest concentration of operations there, despite it being the most densely populated area it covers? Again, provide proof otherwise I'd tend to follow logic over you opinion.

Not sure what you're point is regarding boarders. Mansfield doesn't boarder Nottingham. They used all the stats for the county for the city, which included Mansfield, which was also on the list. My point was that they used stats for Mansfield twice over, which adversely affected Nottingham on the list. Any stats from the East Riding of Yorkshire that would have been added to Hull's would have benefited the City, or so I'm led to believe by posters on this forum.

Nothing has been "shown to be bollocks" since you've provided no evidence, only self-delusion and denial. <ok>

And the fact that your fellow Hull fans, even OLM, can debate this without resorting to childish name-calling and foul language but you can't says a lot about your intellect. <ok>

I remember you saying this before - not in this thread, ages ago. I tend to agree. My sister lived there for about a year. I think a year is all people can stand. Handy though as a gateway between Manchester/Liverpool and the East Midlands.

To be honest I tend to point out that I hate stoke at any possible opportunity.

The only endearing features are some park in Stafford and the services on the M6.

    I hate stoke

Of course, you're quite right and you're not an idiot at all. <ok>

Clearly I'm lying and honestly believe you really are as thick as pig ****, but you seem intent on taking only the bits of information that suit your old argument that you should be happy to stick at the first line.

Posting the same **** you got your original bollocks from is only evidence of your stupidity. Do you not think someone from Hull may just be better informed on this old chestnut than some numpty from Leicester? How often do you think this got batted for six for the cobblers it is when it first cropped up and when some halfwit resurrects it to show their own lack of reading?

If it's proof you're after, as you were desperate enough to drag the old articles from google, rather than us spoon feed you, try digging again for the follow ups. Anyone can find a link on google to support the most outlandish claims (as you've shown) but it takes a more mature person to look for the right answer, not just any old bollocks that supports their own misconception.

As for tainted in the eyes of the Country, I feel humbled to be in the company of the Country's spokesperson. Fortunately a large percentage of the tourists and visitors that come to Hull would also conclude that you're an ignorant fool. Interestingly, more people using Hull University remain in this area once they've graduated than remain in Leicester after attending that University. I guess that gives some impression of the opinion of educated people. <ok>

That was back in 2004/2005. It was really bad back then, but there have been some major improvements and it's not the worst anymore. It's slowly creeping up the table.
And in regards to the Council, most of 'em are new now and better performing. Not that they do anything right still because they're a council but yeah... <laugh>

ST, the three links noddy posted are laughable.

The Council aren't all that good. Years of Labour has held us back in so many ways, but coming bottom is largely a result of the tight boundaries which exclude the suburbs. When a correction is done so that the survey is comparing like for like, Hull scores higher than most other comparable places.

Noddy reckons Humberside Police = Hull Police. We all know the local Plod are at best bad, but he can't drill it down to the City, given it's a small precentage of the area he's now expanding his argument to Brid, Grimsby and S****horpe.

The Channel Four programme's been done to death and they've even held their hands up to say it was bollocks. I didn't think anyone was so out of touch that they'd try to drag it up and make fools of themsleves.

Why the **** some noddy would think that posting ridiculed articles from so long ago was proof of anything but their ignorance is probably a more interesting subject.

It clearly shows the need for that individual to build up their own self esteem by trying to associate themselves with what they see as success from other people and also by trying to dismiss the people laughing at them by trying to denigrate something he associates with them.

It's a negative feed back loop though because it's so easy (especially as it's such an old subject) to not only bat the bollocks away, but to point out similar failings in the area he's linked with.

I guess that's just a long winded way of saying he needs to grow up, get educated and if he can't manage to do something to get his own self esteem up, find a better argument to hide his insecurities behind. <ok>

Your peddling of this utter nonsense is getting painfully embarrassing, you really should put your shovel away now and admit that you simply haven't got a clue what you're talking about. Posting links to eight year old articles about Channel 4 programmes that were dismissed as bollocks at the time is so weak it barely qualifies as straw clutching.

A fair request and for my part, I'll stop making posts pointing out he's an idiot and hopefully, he'll stop making posts that prove he's an idiot. <ok>

So, football in general or even genaral?
