Matster...two very good points! Firstly, I play 5-5-0 in cyberspace, perhaps it would work in reality. e.g. this year's League Cup final (?). I've even seen 4-1-1-4-0 from some teams or 4-2-4-0 to be kind! The idea of using the club more may even bring in a few more punters if they realise it's a nice place, easy to get to and would be worth a look on a Tuesady night or Saturday afternoon.....but do it before mid-winter. On another tack, or two: I am over 60 but under 65.....My club, STFC, have the nerve to charge me full price.....every, and I mean every, club I have visited as an away supporter have given me a reduction on what, in many cases, are lower prices. Why am I penalised compared with liberated female supporters? Are we so tight? "They" even want my d-o-b to keep track of me and check I don't cheat. I travel over 180 miles to watch a match. I have decided to watch more of Burton this season; I'll give Symes and Sharps your regards. I will come over to doanate port to challenge winner! However I will become a fair-weather supporter and do the drive if the conditions are ok and get ready for the flak from other hardy supporters. I imagine you will all get my away reports on The Shrews though from grounds that are less than 100 miles from Derby. Together with an ale report on the pint I can have before a match!
Your response about charging over 60's full price set me doing some research. Firstly, when I first realised that my 65th was coming up (some years ago), I mentioned to the club that I was 65 halfway through the coming season on renewing my season ticket. They immediately charged me at the discounted rate without any identity proof. (Top Marks for that and totally unexpected). The following count concessions as 65 or over:- Shrewsbury-Bristol City-Crawley-Leyton Orient-Carlisle-Swindon-Tranmere-Preston (some tickets only bizarrely)-Wolves-MK Dons-Gillingham Port Vale concessions are 62 + Undefined but I suspect 65( as the category is OAP often):- Bradford-Colchester-Coventry-Oldham 60+:- Rotherham-Notts County-Stevenage-Brentford-Crewe-Walsall-Peterborough-Sheffield United A pretty even split.
Thanks KDS! Looks like I go to the cheap ones......all except Brentford! Must be coincidence and Port Vale as well. Previously Northampton and Macclesfield were really good value. Thanks again, we will keep an eye on this! The reduction more than pays for the extra petrol. Not a real gripe but seemed relevant when considering how we pay and attract players....or not as the case may be.
I am a few years younger than you two but go to the matches with my mates dad and his father in law who are both 60+ and the younger of the two automatically got given a 65+ account when he wasn't even 60 just by how he looked at the ticket office. Shows that having grey hair sometimes works out for you.
Must have been the girl on the desk..... thanks to genetics I don't look my age but they were insistent....as you say.....just luck. Maybe a few bad results and I'll look old and haggard!
rumour has it that a black Mercedes was seen in the car park last night and some 20 year old striker from Colchester may have signed. all pure rumour at this stage.
The Merc was there in the afternoon as was a personalised number plated mini. The Colchester player appeared for them last night-so not him.
