I don't and sometimes i do ... My opinion is that it amazes me how far we have come when we trade our media set ups like peacocks ... None of this works without electricity. I sincerely believe as a nation we are all losing our skills and live in a insulated controlled zone ... HD feeds our brains ... a nation awaits the latest game and movie release and we all suck on Tesco's titty
Have a close look Cerny please ... I thought it was me at first. We have something as simple like a fuel strike in this country as we are ****ed. I live in Wimbledon Village and on the common I see so many people who wouldn't survive one night out in the dark. I fear only maybe a few on here would make it ... no minerals
Christ on a bike! I was simply trying to give some helpful information. If I'd realised it was going to lead to all this conspiracy theorised, we're all being controlled bollocks, I wouldn't have bothered!! You know nothing about how any of us conduct our lives and yet you make all these condescending judgements about us. Give it a rest.
What Oddball is saying holds water nowhere more than the USA I reckon. Americans are completely taken in by their media. Have a talk to a Yank from outside one of the major Cities and you'll find that they come across as - for want of a better term - extremely child-like. Obviously they're not all like that and I don't want to generalise but the men (white) in particular talk like an adolescent teenage lad. Whether it be economics, World affairs or anything else, their understanding is very dumbed down. Explaining stuff to them really is like trying to teach a child. There can only be a couple of reasons for this. (1) They are intellectually ******ed and have low IQ's and their brains are physically smaller. This is untrue so we can scratch that one off. (2) Their education system is useless and they are taught little or nothing in school. There might be an element of truth in this depending on what part of the U S they're from but considering that they have some of the best Universities in the World, I think we can scratch this one off too...............for now. (3) Their media is so powerful and highly driven that (as Oddball suggests) they get sucked into it at an early age and come to depend on it rather than thinking for themselves. As a result, their minds become lethargic and they end up believing any old crap that they're served up. I reckon number 3 is the culprit and to be fair to DT, his thesis is fairly accurate. We should be very careful that we don't end up like the Americans in 20 or 30 years time and become, like them, stooges to the small band of money men and the powerful.
How many American people have you actually met? I have met many, many Americans, mainly from the New England area and I have found them to be generous, polite, reasonable people. Generalisation is the thought of a fool.
I'm not sure you've read my post properly COL because I didn't accuse anyone of not being "generous, polite and reasonable". In fact, in my experience, some of the stupidest people I've met have been more generous and polite than anyone else! Nevertheless, New Englanders are among the most progressive, educated people in the Western World. I suggest you move further afield. Didn't you see the line "Obviously they're not all like that and I don't want to generalise"? I suspect you just saw that I'd posted something on "your" thread and the blood pressure went up before you even had a chance to digest what I was saying?

You say that you don't want to generalise and then go ahead and generalise. So, met many Americans have you? Ever been there?
I am not making any assumptions about anyone in particular ... I find it crazy that we now grade ourselves by our digital hardware set ups that all. On a TV you have to watch TV programs that is all i am saying.
I think you can generalise at this moment in time such is the gravity of the illness IMO. Ever felt like you can't just put your finger on what's wrong ... it's something but its hard to describe? .. If you can't no bother I am mad and you are all sane .. apologies
Well then everything is a generalisation if the proviso "I don't mean all of them" is just discarded. I also brought it down to being outside the big Cities and white men only. Yes of course COL, a lot of small-town white American males are intelligent and well-informed people. However, I don't know how much more bullsh*t I'd have to add in to satisfy you. I suspect nothing I write will ever satisfy you. If I wrote a 500 page, University-accredited dissertation on helping bring about World Peace, you'd have go at me an' all! Listen mate, did you happen to tune into the Presidential campaign/election over the last few months? If you did, it wouldn't take long to realise that the people running the Republican party - mainly older, white males - really are quite dim-witted. They are ignorant and backward. This is the Country that voted George Bush in twice for God's sake. A man who probably has trouble tying his shoelaces in the morning. Unbelievable as it seems, they then managed to find a woman even stupider than him to run as VP in the next election - Sarah Palin. Quite a feat. Go onto YouTube and check out the answers that people at Mitt Romney rallies gave to average questions about their Country and their President and then come back to me and try to make a case that they're not a wee bit thick. I defy you'll be able to do it.
Swords mate, you are on the rampage today, aren't you. I am in the US at the moment, just about to go out to dinner with a few locals. We are in Indianapolis, which by all criteria meets your 'middle of nowhere' type assessment. I will ask them what they think of your analysis and give you the feedback tomorrow. In my experience the ratio of thick to bright people is the same everywhere, despite the nature of their tv.
Not getting involved in a political argument. Left leaning people generally dislike America/Americans. I simply find it all so predictable. I'm out of here!
