Well about two weeks ago I finally watched Taxi Driver enjoyed it as the same era as French Connection and similar almost live cinematography . Watched the latter with my wife. Yesterday we talked about TD and I said she should watch it, and two hours later the film came up in my Sky film choices for late last night.
its a bloody big coincidence plus I have had this occur with my mobile . I know Sky has voice instruction . Am I being stupid , or paranoid or just correct ?
Please don t laugh

I keep saying 'lottery jackpot winning numbers' and it hasn't worked for me.

Mind you, maybe it's because I haven't got Sky.

Most devices listen to you and tailor adverts etc
They didn't create voice activation for your convenience

Probably (no idea if it's right tbh)

Well, I'm not laughing. Year or 2 ago I went to the dentist. I came back with a carrier bag of stuff, written on the side of the bag was an ad for dental implants.
My daughter, who was on her iphone at the time, asked why I had a dental implant bag. Minutes later she started getting unsolicited ads on her phone for dental implant services.

The old adage says that if you're not paying for it, you're not the customer, you're the product.

"Commercial television delivers 20 million people a minute.
In commercial broadcasting the viewer pays for the privilege of having himself sold.
It is the consumer who is consumed.
You are the product of t.v.
You are delivered to the advertiser who is the customer.
He consumes you.
The viewer is not responsible for programming——
You are the end product."

its 100% true for iPhone at least, go into your microphone privacy settings you will be amazed at what can listen (doesn’t mean they are, just that they could)

I don’t like the idea of something listening to me all the time so I’ve turned off “hey Siri” on my iPhone and set the microphone pretty much like SW3. I can’t tell if it impacts my adverts because I also have ad blocker!

On the one hand I want to keep up with technology as I get older - mam never bothered with computers and left it to dad, but now he’s gone she can’t Zoom her grandchildren. I don’t want to be left behind when I’m her age.

On the other - privacy. I’m not that bothered by Google and Apple and Amazon themselves as I think they’re standard giant corporations that I view with some scepticism even while being their customers. More concerned about hackers and others with nefarious intentions accessing information that way.

I thought it was common knowledge that Alexa, Siri etc hear your conversations and target you accordingly.
That's why I don't use them.
Besides, I'm old school I prefer to get off my arse to do something.
It's a lovely day.
I’m not common so hadn’t heard that , but had suspected it for a few years - wouldn’t dream of having an Alexa. I like to talk to people this forum is a halfway house!!!

Talking for me too!!
I hate texts, emails etc.
Good old fashioned talking usually avoids misunderstandings too.
It's good to talk.
Actually, it's GREAT to talk.

Shame, you are missing out. Alexa's are great. Benefits / enjoyment far far outweigh any potential minimal downside.
I have no concern whatsoever about Alexa listening in (if it even does without first being woken up). I'm one of hundreds of millions of users; it's not like they have someone sat there assigned to listening to me.

I'd imagine you'd be listened to by word recognition software before any real person got involved. I'd also guess if you said AK47, or Al Qa'ida or some such thing a few times you might become a person of interest. :emoticon-0101-sadsm
