The information I have points towards sky running a dedicated F1 channel (like they did before) this would make sense because it would not interfere with the football and means they do not have to share with virgin. This begs the question how deep is bernie involved? Because he was in bed with sky the last time and it failed and one thing we all know about bernie is,, he does not like to lose..
I have a new question. Due to the new EU ruling forcing sky to compete with all European broadcasters for the football (thank you lady and her pub), will buying and decoder and watching on German/French/Spanish TV be a viable option? I was in France last year and F1 is on a public channel, I know its in a foreign language but I think that adds to the challenge
Apparently (Private Eye) the cost of a one-off subscription to the French version could be around £200 - still cheaper than sky - then you could just listen to Five Live for commentary.
Apologies if anyone has posted this before, but there's a list of broadcasters on wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_One_broadcasters
Sky Sports launches F1 channel http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12040/7332332/Sky-Sports-launches-F1-channel
I will never watch Sky's production unless forced upon me in the company of others through some professional arrangement. Murdoch has not only undermined the interests of the great(sic) British public, but done so with the help of sycophantic politicians who pretend no Government link with the BBC and any 'arrangements' this so called 'Corporation' comes to with a maverick who has had a vested interest in the politics of this country (UK) for at least four decades.
So they wont show it on sky sports 1 because football is more important so they will shift it onto its own channel where only die hards will have an interest in finding the channel.... how would this encourage more fans? They are already losing fans by the whole stupid deal anyway! F1 channel wont work and sky will bail (hopefully)
They are not interested in what 'the fans' want, so much as how much money they can extort from them. I choose the word 'extort' deliberately and carefully because I believe the fan-base which has been targeted has been deliberately treated unfairly, for financial gain.
living abroad, with a low-range aerial pointing across the border, got me the swiss tv coverage of ALL races, albeit with terrible commentary from the swiss who have no idea about ANY sports commentating (their football is just terrible comentary) and adverts. but its free!
Great news for me! Sky's HD is twice as good as the BBC for picture quality. Shame about not having it on the beeb, but ah well...
