i think that license fee payers should be allowed to vote on what they want shown on the BBC, because otherwise they will pay for something that they don't watch. i thought the UK was meant to be a democracy...

Good old Murray, not afraid to speak up. On today's BBC quali show, there was no mention of any of it, unless I missed something. Surprising, considering the level of outrage.

You didn't hear Martin Brundle saying 'there might be several drivers in the job queue in front of us' ?

And good for him! I meant there was no direct talk of it. Maybe they'll address it tomorrow or in the forum but it surprised me that they didn't discuss it. I mean, talk about an elephant in the room!

Well actually, it's not so good for him, really :(

they were probably told not to talk about it, so as not to leak hidden details (maybe a possible buy-out clause for the bbc to completely get rid of f1). i'm sure brundle would have talked about it if he could have. he seems to be the only one who is an actual fan on that team.

Yeah, Murray and Martin, the old guard and the only ones who'll speak up. I suppose all the presenters are in a difficult position: what can they say? Tell us it's a great deal for the fans? Apologise on behalf of their employers? Throw some custard pies?

Well, there's not much going to happen on this forum. We could set up a Facebook page to give people an 'event' they can attend, like boycotting a GP this season. Link it to a Twitter hashtag and hammer that incessantly. Those of us who aren't lepers should spread the word on other forums.

Meanwhile, a set of standard communiqués, such as the draft you posted above, should be agreed and sent out to the relevant authorities on the hour, every hour - show them we're not to be trifled with. We should point out that they bear full responsibility for the falling audiences and that we shall not submit to blackmail.

They've bled us white, the bastards. They've taken everything we had, and not just from us - from our fathers, and from our fathers' fathers.

And what have they ever given us in return?

A lot has been said about the government's role indirect role in this. A pro Murdoch government an anti BBC government which forced the freeze on the license fee.

It's small things like these which makes the Tories lose voters, not just a struggling economy. I hope David Cameron soon realise his mistakes...just like how he cocked up over the phone hacking scandal.

ye, but if labour are put in and they unfreeze the license fee to the bbc, the bbc are going to think "f1 is too expensive, lets keep it like this and put on more eastenders as ppl have to pay the license fee anyways".

i bet andy gray will be doing the grid walk for sky, asking the Grid Girls and Pit Babes to tuck a microphone into his trousers.

on a serious note, keep your eyes on a goverment petitions from the 4th of August this year. Please share and sign when available.

Current cost to the BBC is reported to be around £45 milllion per year. Last weekend saw 4.5 million viewers tune in. If this is representative then the cost is £10 per viewer per year or 50p per race.

New cost for the 10 races on sky would be around £480 per year or £48 per race.

£48per race vs 50p per race. I wonder which is better value for us???

    Hi Greenberet.

As I suspect you know, what is better value 'for us' is not part of the equation.

Sky already employ Jardine as an F1 expert and he's absolutely terrible, imagine a commentary team of Legard and Jardine. <yikes>

I'm not overly impressed with the BBC's broadcasting, but they get the important things right; uninterrupted coverage of practice, qualifying and the races, and a decent commentary team. As long as Sky don't lace their coverage with mid-race adverts (which they almost certainly will :(), I'm not too bothered.

There's some positive news to come out of this (I'm talking about you being compelled to return, not saddened by the news of course). Great to see you back Genji, I hope this is a permanent return. Sorry for what I said after the British GP.

Jardine was pretty weak on ITV but that other guy - Simon something - was even worse. He could have been Legard's brother.

Sky will put on a good show, no doubt, and won't have adverts during the race (just during the build up and post-race review, like football). For me the issue is around F1 getting into bed with Murdoch and his dynasty. It's just wrong.

Cheers, AG. I took it personally (which I've now read you didn't intend), which was wrong of me so I apologise. If it had been another member then fair enough but coming from a mod and someone I respect I thought it was a bit harsh. I was a bit fed up anyway and needed a break.

Has anyone noticed the BBC's choice of music this weekend? Yesterday it was "It Ain't Over 'til it's Over", today "Let's Stick Together". Neither tune seemed especially apt to the footage so, I'm wondering, are their behind-the-scenes people showing us fans some solidarity where Jake and co. will only trot out the party line?

Hi Genji, yes, a dark day for F1 fans, I will have to resort to covert means to watch F1 for free, there is no way I will pay other than my TV license to watch F1.

Bernie Ecclestone has sold us out, he mistakenly believes he will increase the viewing figures.

WTF is that silly woman Barbara Slater in charge of BBC sport thinking about showing half the ****ing races, what next, show the start and the first half of the race, then Eastenders, with race results on FiveLive.

A shame that bloke didn,t have a gun instead of a custard pie when he attacked Turdoch.

Bernie you are a total prick.
