Yes I agree with that but the fact is as True Blue is touching on Sky will do a much better job. The full HD treatment more analysis more off race weekend coverage. They are going to make an effort I will be buying the package but if I don't like it I will cancel it.
If I have to pay for very good coverage I will do so but the fact is Sky is a business and are just doing there job.

Oh indeed, it's not Sky's fault. You can't blame them for eating up the delicious F1-shaped treat that was handed to them on a plate.

I don't doubt that they'll have some extra bits and pieces that will add to their coverage, but first and most important to me is what happens on track and that's what's been taken away.

Usually I'm happy to pay extra for things as I know that that extra expenditure usually results in extra dividends. However, considering that we are in a recession, this was a really poor decision on Bernie's and the BBC's part. Food, bills, consumer goods etc are all going up. What made them think that people wanted to add to their outgoings?

Lol and yet the fan base of all those sports was killed by all the money they offered for the top dogs.

How will Sky revolutionize F1 when FOM are the ones supplying the cameras as me and many other F1 fans have pointed out to the Sky dweebs talking PR bullshit on what they are going to deliver. Onboard cameras, oh wow! Didn't they do that last time and that it failed miserably.

Football is the only sport Sky is making profit on, the rest they are losing profit but sadly they like grabbing sportfans by the balls and giving them an ultimatum to pay up or lose out when they never asked for it in the first place.

British f1 fans were happy with the BBC coverage, we were spoilt for choice, but now sadly as most things by the British mindset, sold the fans down the river to a vulture.

The Beeb sold us out I am afraid there lies and blocking Channel 4 and Five tactics were disgusting. Times are tight for all of us they could have just sent a team of 10 out:

    Brundle,Coulthard,Kravitz,Lee Mckenzie

Tv and Camera crew - 6 of them

Humpherey and Jordan should present from Salford!

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with Sky keeping it free for HD customers, that must be pretty much the majority of its clients? But will they carry on doing this when they have all the races? Lets wait and see. As for the bit about as much as FOM will ive them, how long before we're deciding penalty outcomes with our red button :)

Just spotted a deal for anyone who already has normal sky.

Take out the HD package (which gives you the free box and the f1 channel) and you get £100 m+s voucher.

So, that pays for 10 months... I guess.

Decent enough. Just a heads up for those who, like me, will bite the bullet for Sky. F1 is just too big a part of my life. I still say "**** you Sky" but I can't miss F1.

    What a shame.

The way I see it, as soon as you buy into Murdoch's plan, you become a supporter of it. I hasten I to add that I sympathize with everyone who feels like this, just as I sympathize with the vast majority of Germans during WWII - who felt they had no choice in the early days of the Nazi regime.

I have to admit, this wasn't a thread I thought would invoke Godwin's Law so quickly! Well, I guess Murdoch is a sensitive issue...

I quite agree with your question Westy, but there seems very little attention to such matters.

i have up to know kept out of the sky / murdoch / formula 1 witchhunt on here because to be honest i have sky allready and a very good service it is as well , so it did not really bother me when sky took it over ,

however i can understand the angst on here when people who have not got sky have to suddenly start shelling out from there own pockets to watch our passion --

nobody likes having to suddenly divvy up for something that not withstanding the licence fee they have recieved free for many yrs , however lets get in the real world people this is 21st century rip off england and barring the people that milk the benefits system there are no free hand outs anymore in any walk of life in this country -

however ---- is any of this really murdoch"s fault , he is a businessman after all and a very, very , brilliant one ,
he is in the business of making money and employing thousands of people --- is this such a crime ,
he is after all not the salvation army and if you want any of his services you cant reasonably expect them for free -

he merely saw an opportunity to take over the F1 broadcast because the bbc have there funding priorities to serve the tabloid mentality challenged masses with there brain numbing soap operas and coma inducing game shows and did not see F1 as a priority -

as i said is any of this murdoch" fault - not in my book -

Not all Murdoch's fault. I think it's about time Her Majesty gave Rupert Murdoch an honourary knighthood.
He runs Skys News at a loss for the great British public to ensure we have a balance to the left-wing BBC. He runs the Times at a loss too which is a great newspaper.
I get Sky and it's an excellent service as you say. I for one am looking forward to F1 on Sky.

seems we sing from the same hymn sheet blue as far as sky is concerned ,

hopefully the sky F1 broadcast will get the full sky treatment , i believe it will consist of all the practice sessions as well as the qual and race which will obviously be an improvement on what the bbc have so far provided -
not to mention the lovely little dolly with her threepenny bits hanging out that will present the show ----- brilliant -

what is there not to like --- i cant wait ,

well done rupert murdoch i say ---

    You are in a minority.
Murdoch can be a businessman all he wants, his service is an overpriced rip-off and it vampirises the sports it claims to support.
Formula One cannot survive on pay-to-view; certainly the smaller teams will suffer horribly from the loss of advertising revenue.

Meanwhile, it also raises questions about the BBC who (as I recall) initially signed a deal to host F1 until 2014, have won BAFTAs for their coverage, and yet ditched it at the first opportunity.

tomtom, why do you think we are in a minority? And history would suggest otherwise. Sky have taken the old English Division 1 and created the Premier League, the biggest football league in the world. People were up in ups about cricket. But they took tthe rubbish old BBC coverage that used to get interrupted by horse racing and revolutionised the coverage. One thing you can be sure of is that Sky's coverage will be far superior to the BBC's. I can't see how that is a backward step. And it is isn't PPV. Sky are actually giving it for free to HD customers; i.e. you don't have to have the sports package.
