Now steady on fellas...we have just bagged ourselves a precious 3 pts, something that not many predicted...and with Charlton's unbeaten home record, something to celebrate I would have thought. There's me giving my lady some treatment to a new knee cap....and b....ger me, turn on the radio and Hunt drives one away as I tune in! Yes, of course we all have our views, experiences, knowledge, some tend to use more colourful language which I am not a huge fan of, but that's life, and thank goodness this forum is a place for all opinions. So, lets respect each other, calm down dears, and just relish in the fact that good old Town are 3rd...1 bleeding pt off the top spot...and not playing the most fluent of footie, but showing a great amount of guts, determination, passion and above all Club loyalty and a strong spirit in the camp. That I like. And MM had to mix it up a bit before ko...our midfield has not had the same 3-4 for about 5 games....so, while I admit I am not a fan of Skuse, I will admit that he perhaps did a better job 2nd half.(From reports) And, ditto my thoughts on MM's normal tactics of bringing on defenders and all playing backwards footie, giving away possession and throwing at least 3 games away at the death. But today, he played a damn good card, he put on 2 forwards...and what a difference that obviously made. Well played Mick! And just think of new signing Hunt's confidence...a manager who understands players is like gold-dust. Keep yer peckers up mates - I for one haven't felt this excited about being an Ipswich fan for about 25 bloody years!
By the time Skuse got a name check from the Commentators I had forgotten he was playing. When he plays well he's a safe option in Midfield, but he can no longer be first choice. That said, fantastic win today. Game was frustrating and we were so slow in attack, but really can't complain to much. Second in the table, and our first choice midfield yet to return, happy days indeed.
" Jonah i am really pleased we won but world beaters we are not and to be honest i have had enough of certain C***S on this site, that see no wrong and shout you down if you have a differing opinion to them. " - Do I come under this category!? I only saw the last 30 and I thought Skuse played very well. Game of opinions so fair enough Spanish.
Cant comment on yesterdays game as I didn't realise it was an early kick off so only know about the result but in general I can see where Spanish is coming from. Skuse is a very defensive player in an already safe team. I would love him if we played 'gungho' attack but we never have under MM and probably never will. His place is therefore going to waste for me. I can also see where he is coming from in a general view of the team. We are where we are due to determination and organisation not due to brilliant entertaining play. Our cautious approach has obviously won us numerous points but the mentality does sometimes annoy the hell out of me. The must win game at Burnley(?) last season when we needed 3 points but went out with a 'don't get beaten' attitude and the amount of home games this season whereby we have tried to shut up shop in the last twenty minutes only to put ourselves under stupid amounts of pressure and concede mainly as a result of not having an option to get the ball up the pitch. We are getting the points and we have moved forward unbelievably since MM took over and it is the only real positives we have had in the whole of the ME era so its not a real complaint from me but I did feel it was a required post as Spanish is taking a lot of flack for views which I can understand yet would not put across in the same way as him. We are doing brilliantly with what we have and are definitely doing better than the 'sum of our parts' but it doesn't mean we are perfect and there are numerous views on how to reach an even higher level. I would also hate it if any opposing views were to disappear from the forum. It would be a pretty poor site if we all sat here with the same opinions on everything.
As you say TB, you do need alternative views, as you have just given, it's the way they get put across that is an issue. Most of us MM "lovers" do realise he is far from perfect, if he was he would be at Utd, City or Chelsea!
Great post Southcoastgaffer, very balanced view. This sight is about expressing opinions and debating, it shouldn't be about taking the piss (although it's tough not to at the budgies down the road atm) or being idiots to people who have genuine opinions or being patronising to each other. No matter how badly or well we are doing there's plenty to analyse. And yes Skuse I think is possibly the most frustrating player ever to wear a town shirt. Great win though, anyone getting dizzy?
Completely agree. Never thought I'd be sticking up for Spanish. But he has actually calmed down alot in recent months and puts fairly reasoned opinions (if somewhat negative) rather than rants. Opinions are what this sight should be all about In Micks reign the negatives far outway the positives but by god his approach can be frustrating sometimes. As I've said I think he has the potential to be a top top manager but his slightly negative approach holds him back from being a great PL manager.
Anyone noticed how any games in the past I'd say 8/9 months where we've won the game and had a real good all round performance Skuse was never in the team. Whenever he seems to be in the team we grind out results. Although he may disrupt the flow of the oppositions play, he seems to do it to our aswell!!
That does not really stack up PTC, we have had 4 wins by two goals Skuse has played in 3 of them.! I am not defending him as I am not a fan, he is a very "safe" player, he normally plays the averages, that is probably why MM likes him so much.
It stacks up very well from what I've heard on the radio and seen with my own eyes. I'm talking more about performances than results. I swear everytime he plays we never play well (even if we get the result) we grind out results when he's in the team. Our midfield never seems to function as well when he's in the side. All the best performances under Mick in 2014 usually come without him being in the side
I think Skuse is going to continue to divide opinions until the sun goes home! I thought he was poor at Bournemouth, along with the rest of the midfield. I only saw the last 30 at Charlton, and I thought he played well.
Not a massive fan of Skuse but certainly serves a purpose.. In other sports he would be classed as a 'training donkey' which is someone who serves the purpose of allowing others to develop around them by doing all the horrible stuff & let's the others have freedom to develop.. We don't seem to struggle too much whilst he's in the side though if we had a more effective Cole Skuse, I'd fancy us to be a lot more of a threat than we currently are
There always seems to be one player that divides opinion I remember that Scowcroft used to get imo opinion very harsh criticism from sections of the crowd. I am not the biggest fan of Skuse but I do trust MM so if he thinks he is the best option that's good enough for me(although I will still moan about it).
Nice one Westy...I have heard most cracks about sport, weather, the genders...but the sun going home? Love it!
Think you've hit the nail on the head there, he's by no means a bad player that is where the frustration lies, he could be so much better. No doubting he does all the dirty stuff and I'm usually the first person to defend a 'sideways' passer if it keep possession but he has the potential to dictate play and set the tempo of the game but he doesn't. When Tabb played there a couple of games back he set the tempo of the game and linked the defence to the midfield and attack very well. With Skuse in the team we look disjointed when in possession
