We were 7 points but also two games in hand on you, so effectively 1 point clear while you lot were seven games into a 14-game run of clean sheets, picking up 17 points from a possible 21, while we had drawn four of the past seven. You were already doing 'better' than us.
So the manager has no influence over results then? Thanks for that The fackts speak for themselves - Rafa's rant - massive media coverage of it, much laughter and taking the piss on the likes of Talksport and from other fans on forums like this - followed by 3 poor results and losing the lead in the league. Keegan's rant did the same for Newcastle, as it brought additional focus and pressure onto the team. Deny it all you like, the fackts are there.
Put himself under a little pressure no doubt but the turnstile operators, programme sellers, cafe staff and boardroom members never made any appearances on the pitch in the final few games so had no bearing on their outcome.
The results that followed were magnificent mate weren't they. 2 losses all season. It was too many draws that did it, most of which were in the first half pre- rant! We lost one game after the rant - shocker
Bollocks, so you actually believe he changed tactics?, team formation? due to pressure because of his rant. Everything remained the same on the playing side, we just weren't good enough when it mattered.
We just weren't good enough in the end, same as happens every season with regards to the club finishing runners up.
You're completely deluded if you don't think that incident played a part in the poor results that directly followed it, that ulitmately cost you the title. But there's no point in labouring the point any further. It was what it was.
I don't think he really knows what happened but makes it up as he goes along. After the rant we played a further 17 games, losing just one of them - a loss that shouldn't have happened to Middlesbrough including an og from Alonso utd were already on a great run and it continued, a fall away following the rant is a myth swallowed by those who know no better. Just a look at the fackts tells you that
You still haven't explained how(apart from your opinion)there is any way to prove Rafa's fackts had an adverse effect on our end to the season.
it's this kind of post that proves you know nothing about football. Everyone and his dog knows for a fact that what cost us that season was our inability to break down the lesser teams that came to Anfield looking for a point. That is what put pressure on the club and team. That was a problem the entire season and had nothing to do with the press conference. But why let basic understanding of the problems we faced that season that cost us our shot at the PL get in the way of some classical Tobes self delusion. There's another free lesson on how to use the word "delusion"
You won 10 out of your last 11 games that season, including humping the eventual Champions 4-1 on their own turf. Of course you were good enough ffs. It was those 3 draws directly after his rant that cost you the title
2 of the 3 draws I was referring to were away from home. I know more about the game than you ever will btw
By everyone I always assume Liverpool fans mean, only Liverpool fans. Because everyone else is well aware that rafas meltdown played a huge part in your failings.
He also had a touch of gout, toothache and an ingrowing toenail, they mystically also played their part.
- Rafa recorded his 100th league win as manager in his 181st game. It was the 3rd quickest ever by a Liverpool manager and 50 games faster than Alex Ferguson. - Recorded our biggest win at Old Trafford for 72 years. It was also the 1st time 4 Liverpool players had scored at United in the same game. - Became only the 2nd English team to win in the Bernabeu. - At Anfield inflicted on Real Madrid their biggest ever Champions League defeat. All above were after the rant. What a meltdown eh.
UIR - give us some facts as proof to back up your opinion that the rant had an adverse effect on the rest of the season because from where I'm looking the rest of the season saw an improvement [slight] on the first half.
Aside from the 3 games directly after it that cost you 6 points and are what we're ****ing talking about like........
The games that cost us. We drew more and lost two but 2008\9 these are the games we should have won most of. The Arsenal one especially sticks out as 2 of the Arsenal goals were due to complete ****ups(Tobes will have you believe Arbeloa kicked the ball straight to Arshavin because of what Rafa said) Liverpool 0-0 Stoke City Liverpool 0–0 Fulham Liverpool 0–0 West Ham United Liverpool 2–2 Hull City Liverpool 1–1 Everton Liverpool 4–4 Arsenal Rafa was consistently criticised all season for failing to beat the likes of Stoke, who we drew with home and away before any press conference was held. Only someone who deludes themself into believing what they want would put it down to Rafa's comments on Fergie. More to the point, anyone that thinks ANY of the players were thinking of Rafa's comments on match day are seriously deluding themselves
Don't forget the side utd had - a front three of Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez, On two consecutive weeks, a late Macheda goal turned two points into six. This utd side reached the CL final, and were widely tipped for the quadruple, also managed to keep 14 consecutive clean sheets in the league, Edwin van der Saar went for hours [as they say now] unbeaten. If they hadn't been on song we would have won the league, bearing in mind we had the highest number of points by any team which failed to win the league, and we didn't amass all those points before the rant!
