Phillips signs for Seasiders
Veteran striker to prolong his playing career at Bloomfield Road
Last Updated: July 10, 2011 12:55pm

....Veteran frontman Kevin Phillips has signed a one-year contract at Championship outfit Blackpool.

The deal includes the option for a 12-month extension to be taken up next summer.

Skysports.com revealed last Thursday that the 37-year-old striker was set to seal a move to Bloomfield Road.

Having seen his contract expire at Birmingham, Phillips was cast into the free agent pool this summer.

His vast experience and impressive goalscoring record appealed to Blackpool boss Ian Holloway and he has offered the former England international the opportunity to prolong his playing career.

Exciting
"I did a fair bit of work last year for Sky television watching Blackpool when I was commentating," Phillips told the club's official website.

"Like everyone else in the country, I enjoyed watching Blackpool play and creating chances.

"It was exciting to watch and Ian Holloway is an infectious manager. That was certainly a major factor in me wanting to join Blackpool.

"I've scored many goals in my career and I still believe I've got many in me.

"Hopefully I can get on the end of a few of those chances that we create."

I think B'ham have missed a trick personally as hios experience would have been invaluable for the blues attempts to get back into the EPL?

Good luck SKP. The best all round footballer I've ever seen wear red & white at SAFC.

Brilliant, hope he fires them back into the prem...

The league is a better place with players and teams like that.

I would have his babies if he ever wanted anymore children. We should have something similar of him outside the ground to what we have of Stokoe. Quinny probably deserves something as well!

I don't know if anyone can recall when SKP phoned the legends the night he was sold to thank the Sunderland fans for all they had done. I had tears in my eyes just about. The guy is pure class and who knows where his career would have gone if we'd flogged him to Arsenal. He's a gentleman and top class player. I wish him all the best at Blackpool and like some of you, I hope to see him coaching at the SOL in some capacity one day.
