Last night on French TV there was a documentary on the life and music of George Micheal. Interviews with people like Elton dubbed into French were quite funny as they had voices that were nothing like the real person. I never really thought much about his music, but watching the way he progressed I could well imagined that had he lived he could have become a cabaret star like Tony Bennett working well into old age. As Mme said, "pity he screwed his life up".
I used to live with a drummer from a well-known punk band and through him met several other well-known drummers (well, their bands were well-known ), and what amused me was that most of them were, or had been, goalkeepers. When I coach young goalkeepers now, I always say "You're the nutter in the band!", encouraging them to be brave and bold when going out to claim the ball or dive at someone's feet. My drummer pal pointed out to me that the drummers were always the best fighters if it kicked off, and all his mates agreed. They were the fittest, strongest (through lugging stuff about) and all had a crazy streak.
Agree on the modern computerised crap but there is a great deal of new talent out there especially singer / songwriters like James Kirby, a young girl called Hope from St Albans, and the Kings Parade. We recently picked our youngest daughter up from a late night 'hip' pub in Harpenden. She was a bit embarrassed that us oldies dared to actually enter the pub to find her. We stayed for a drink and I noticed the only time the dance floor was packed was when they changed the computerised music to something mainstream.
Presumably a TV show? I don't have a TV licence so don't get to watch much (other than some recent soul-destroying football matches...)
A film thread - as long as it could include stuff like this (not only do I not get to watch much TV, but rarely go to the cinema either) https://www.chonday.com/25830/busterstunts5/
The only music I don't care for is free-form jazz on the whole, most disco, and then various artists of all genres but particularly Simply Red, UB40 and Culture Club to name three. Didn't care for the Smiths back in the day, neither. That has changed. Nowadays my iPod has Mozart to Motörhead, AC/DC to Aztec Camera, Hans Zimmer to ZZ Top via Norah Jones, Marvin Gaye, the Clash, Barbra Streisand (seen her twice), Elvis, Elton... you get the idea.
